nice! I'm considering a planetary gear elimination to change from the 2:1 reduction gears to a 1:1 locker type. with the amount of torque these things have and the overbuilt nature of these military trucks, a fixed hub should allow it to move faster at a lower rpm. in 7th gear it should achieve 55mph at about 1600 Rpm instead of 2300.. while I'm not a fool in thinking that the MPG will double from 8-16, i believe it will at least be an increase to roughly 12-13.

I think you will regret doing something like that. That is not a small gearing change. You may not have the torque you want. Imagine getting stuck but not having the gear range to pull yourself out. Or, imagine climbing some steep hills in Colorado and struggling. If you load your expo rig up with supplies but can't climbs hills or get unstuck, MPG may not matter.

Also, as mentioned previously, the axles and the rest of the drive line are not meant to directly drive the tires. I think you will increase your chances of breaking.

For those rare few not on Steel Soliders........ As to improving axle ratios, Steve6x6x6 (Google him) sells whole axles. (think link in post above is him) Bryce Wasielak (search him on Facebook) sells just the 3rd members. When it comes to labor cost your better off just swapping either whole axle or just 3rd member than digging into the 3rd member used for these swaps ( from Caimon Mrap) to remove R&P in order to swap into LMTV 3rd Member.

Beginning to wonder, with how much it all cost....... if you might be better off swaping to an engine with higher RPM and better known fuel milage; be it Diesel or god for bid..... a gasser.

We have already registered with a standard campsite and were originally intending on driving up in our pickup with our dirt bikes, though i suppose a few things can be accomplished on the truck by then and drive it up. it is my hope to have a 100% completed chassis with subframe and waiting for panels to be mounted. i think the truck just might go over the 20x20 space by a couple feet though... 24' length. Ill talk to Total Composites more about parking in their vendor space, maybe we could bump our standard camp space to be adjacent to the TC vendor spot?

Hey all, I've been working tirelessly on the truck getting all sorts of things accomplished. Completing wiring circuits, air lines, mounted the new 150 gallon fuel tank, transmission cooler, wiring and lines, 4 point subframe is finally fabricated and painted after spending so many hours designing and drawing. A few pieces were finished during mock up, but the subframe is now painted and ready to mount in the next day or two.
After a long transformation, I finally pulled the truck outside for the first time since going inside to make room for the subframe build.
