true flow

true flow seems to have gone out of business, which is disappointing, i am getting ready to ditch the cold air kit and it was going to be one of my next purchases. there are a very few left online, but i would be concerned about getting cleaning kits in the future, and they want a lot for them. should i pull the trigger on one of the last few in stock, can anyone suggest a good alternative drop in air filter for a 3.4l or should i just go back to stock?

I have a true flow drop in and have always just used simple green and warm water to clean it, then I dry it out and spray it with a very light coat of tacky foam filter oil.

I have been doing this for about 3 years and 20,000 miles and no problems.

bought a filer, at the only place online i could find it. crossing my fingers it goes through, last time i did this with a pair of work boots from chippewa they decided to my disbelief to discontinue, i had a few places tell me they had them when i ordered them online, them came back a few days later to tell me hey didn't.

My personal opinion of reuseable filters are:

1- No HP advantage. Perhaps some dyno a little better, but I couldn't tell any difference.
2- No filtering advantage. In fact, most reuseable filters are known to be much worse than OEM.
3- Financial advantage? At $40-60 a pop, it would take about 80-100k miles of use to see any benefit. And even then, I'd rather put in a fresh brand new filter than some filter with 100k on it. I don't mind spending $15 a YEAR on a filter. Also, some have caused the MAF to malfunction.

I will never use a K&N and the likes again. Just no benefit, IMO. I'm sticking with OEM.

That stinks, I've had my trueflow for awhile too. Awsome filter stops everything from getting in. I'm glad I have another cleaning kit on hand:wings:

If mine goes out I would probably give one of the dry filters ago that don't use oil. My old K&N made it one trip in the dust and after seeing dust all the way up the intake tube it was done. The only hard part about the TrueFlow is when cleaning it it is a sponge and takes awhile to get all of the water back out of it.

yeah sven, i figured some guys would be a bit disappointed if they didn't already know, i kinda based my purchase on the reviews i got from people on the board, i guess i can't understand how manufacturers who sell quality products with good reputations fail. i have an airaid kit now, and it is the same as a k&n, i can literally see the light coming through when i clean it. and cackalak han, i agree with you on several accounts, but more or less i like the idea of making permanent or long lasting purchases, i want things that last, and these filters have come highly recommended.

laxtoy, I understand. I used KN filters for years. But finally came to the conclusion that OEM filter is just better. There are certain components that I would never reuse. Even if KN or Trueflow came out with a reuseable oil filter, fuel filter, etc, I'd still buy new ones. The extra $ spent is just worth it for me to know I didn't mess up the cleaning process or over-oiled the filter. Same reason I don't buy reused tires (retreads), even though people have had no problems, the higher risk isn't worth it for me for the few $ in savings.

well, looks like i will be going back to oem anyhow, no biggie. the online company that said they had the filter sent me an email after realizing they did not have it. this seems to be happening more and more, kinda bums a guy out
