Do you have any idea what sort of weight those bars across the bed can carry?

Something like that may just do for fitting my root-tent to.

Thanks. The crossbars are rated at 120lbs. I had planned on mounting my spare up there, and putting compressor and tank in place of spare. I got to looking at the proposed location though and thought better of it, in case of wreck.
