I lived out of this truck for 10 days as I journeyed from Vero Beach Florida to training for my new job in LA and then on up to Redmond Oregon.

Best Aussie accent, in a hushed-tone, one you would expect from a wildlfife TV show host...

"Crikey, I guess it's going to be an early spring in the bush... watch...

...the TundraBirds have awakened from their winter slumber and have begun posting with regularity. Notice how they display their brightly-colored pictures from last years adevntures in order to attract a mate to join them in a walkabout in the woods or on the beach! Oy!... better make that Woop Woop 'cause there's bound to be some good tucker! Cheers!" ;)

I want a bottle of what he's drinking...

It's called "Green Envy" , see he's got this cool Tacoma with a fresh solid axle conversion, but it's powered by an overburdened, underpowered, fourbanger. When he's loaded for a trip he gets less mileage than our V8 powered trucks, and can't pass those granny's down the road 'cause "accelerate" ain't in that trucks vocabulary.

I think, deep down inside he wishes it could become a Tundrabird, but his little truck just won't grow up!

Given the extra power of the v8 I think a 1st Gen Tundrabird with a solid front axle conversion could quite possibly be the perfect Toyota truck.......but maybe I'm just slightly biased :sombrero:

Nuh-unh!

I console myself with the fact that I get the same mileage as a loaded 80-series Land Cruiser. So there.

Truth be told Jim, if I knew what I know now... a first gen with SAC and V-8 would be exteremely tolerable.

Anyway, the Tacoma is back on the road again! Took it to Richmond for our BBRC meeting. It drives really nice - about the same with the IFS and steering rack. Tracks straight and true. Suspension is firm but soaks up all the bumps - better than the OME. Had it up to 85 MPH with no problems. Little driveline harmonic that they took care of today by changing the angle at the carrier bearing. I'm liking it! 315 KM2's on order.

Cam and I are taking it up to PA tomorrow for an extended road test to pick up an immaculate RHD Aussie FJ55 with rear ambu doors. Maybe we can swing by Lancaster County, PA and drag race for pinks with some of the Amish folk.

Is that with a tailwind?

The 1 horse buggies you can deal with but watch out for those 2 horsepower Amish buggies. They're pretty quick and may just blow your doors off!

I guess it's time to post some pictures to contribute to the thread. No great scenic pictures and nothing fancy to show off, but it's all a work in progress right.

2002 Access cab, 4wd, TRD, sitting now with an AAL and OME shocks in the back, waiting to close on a house so I have a driveway to install the OME885 up front. Lightforce 140's on the front bumper, Yakima Basketcase on Yakima bars on a Craigslist camper (Jason brand) with tractor lights for backing up and setting up camp.

This is the closest I have to a picture of the truck when I bought it in January of '10. Bought it from a fellow in North Carolina with 87k miles on it. Drove through the snow and ice of North Georgia to get me to the Appalachian Trail for some backpacking.

It does its fair share of work now and then. This fellow pushed my tailgate out when somebody loaded it on incorrectly.

It sees regular duty as a truck to sleep in and it gets me to trailheads without a problem.

I hit 100k in December of '10.

I haven't seen many interior shots so here are my switches to work future lights, etc. I can't see worth a flip at night so lighting is important for me. All switches are tied to a homemade relay box and Blue Sea fusebox.

The sunglasses case was worthless for me so I mounted my XM radio up there.

Here she is as she sits today. We're both ready to get out of the apartment and into a house with a garage, hopefully in less than a month :wings:
