Two RTT Trailer

Got some work done on the trailer over that last few days.

Replaced the jack, using the same model from Harbor Freight. User error broke the last one, so it should be ok going forward. One of the things that bugged me about the jack was that it was kinda loose on the frame. I used some of the hardware from the old jack and a block of oak to tighten the fit. Seems more stable now.

Here you can see the gap on the bottom of the frame:

Here's the gap filled with a nice solid block of oak. The oak was painted black to match the trailer frame. It is bolted in as well. There are now 6 bolts holding the jack to the frame.

Here's the bracing I used from the other jack. I ran out of thread to tighten the clamp and the jack would shift under load some. I flipped the vertical bracket over and used the vertical brackets from the old jack as horizontal strong-backs. This spaced the bolts out and let me fully apply star torque to the nuts. (Star torque is where you tighten until you see stars, value may vary with age)

I installed a 6 foot Tepui Awning and the wall kit.

There is an issue with the spring steel bows for the roof top tent and the awning. So I needed a way to extend and retract the awning. My solution was to use 2 18 inch long pieces of this perforated steel channel bolted to the roof of the trailer with 3 stainless steel 5/16 carriage bolts. I used fender washers on the underside, butyl rubber top and bottom with nyloc nuts. Then I used a 3 foot section of steel perforated tube

2 of these pins on each side secure the square tube and allow it to move.

Here's the interference:

Awning walls attached. I need to take the trailer out to where I can fully extend and stake out the trailer.

I've got a few more tweeks to do this weekend. Next Saturday, we are headed to Death Valley for a little R&R.

Love you fab skills. Great setup! Never seen that RTT mounting option before. Very cool idea.

Here is another idea.....For a more cleaner look for your jack. This is what i did.

You weld the coupler to the trailer and your set!

I had a photo on my cellphone of a pair of RTTs mounted on a custom-made rack on the back of a Jeep FC. It was a sight to behold. Unfortunately that pic is gone with the accidental destruction of my old cell.

EDIT: Thanks to auto synching, here it is.
