Tyre pressures on trucks

I run Yokohama 235/85R16, LT Radial 742 tires on my FG. According to the local Yokohama dealer a real good tire which is probably why they don't have them anymore. Lasted too long. When I was doing my testing of the Aeon" rubber baby buggy bumpers", I ran the tires at the recommended 80 psi. Still a bit harsh ride. I can't find any information on the Yokohama web site that gives a suggested minimum pressure for highway speeds. I know temperature is a controlling factor which means I need to get off my ******** and get my remote pressure/temperature sensors installed but it would nice to have a starting point. Anyone have a suggestion based on experience or test data that will give me an operation range for cold tire pressure?

Missed that when I skimmed the thread earlier. 80 psi is what is given on the door tag for fully loaded. I agree that it seems high'

pressure run depends alot on tyres also; ie how hard the tyre itself is. The XLs on my rig are fairly soft, with big baggy sidewalls, so i have to run them fairly high pressure on highway (around 60psi with only 4-4.5t) to make them stand up. if i was running 19.5" rims, i cant see any reason to go over 45-50, because the tyre itself is so damn hard.
As for temperature, this is easily checked by holding your hand on the sidewall. you will quickly realise if one or all tyres are too soft, generally (i think chocko mentioned this) if you cant hold your hand on the tyre its too hot, and it should be substantially cooler than this anyway.

I have the same IR thermometer but never thought of it as a security device. A bunch cheaper than that night scope I boughtI carry an inexpensive Harbor Freight infrared thermometer for checking tire and bearing temperatures. Very handy device. It can also detect intruders in pitch darknessIt's fun trying to find the black cat in a darkened room.
About $40 US for the model I have. Harbor Freight also carries less expensive models:

It might also be useful in a bar where it might detect which women are hot for you. I've never tried that.
