UJOR Build Thread

I'm sure this has been asked and told more than a couple times. I need to know what the total height is on an E350 with a ujoint 6" on 35's. I'm planning on building a new house and garage so I need to know how tall the overhead door should be. This puts my van conversion on hold but at least in the end I will be able to do the build inside instead of in my driveway!

I'd make the door taller if you plan on putting anything on the top or doing a pop top just for some extra clearance.

It will vary but 6" on 35s will be tight. I'm sure my springs will settle a little but, eye balling it in Josh's shop it is only a couple inches under 8'. It looks like it will fit in my 8' garage door now but I highly doubt it will with a top.
If you're planning on potentially adding anything at all on the roof, I'd build the garage door at least 8'6" (if not higher) to be safe.

Thanks for all the responses! That helps me a bunch. I'll probably go with 10. I would much rather have more than enough room vs I wish I would have built it bigger.

I'm just starting to think about this. I'm guessing that the wheel wells are critical, also the doghouse... any other key areas to make sure I don't miss? So far I've just thrown some stall mat down on the floor behind the seats to calm things down a bit, still in the process of tearing things out.

6.0s have pretty good insulation from the factory in the doghouse and not much else can be added before it starts to touch the engine. We are using an aftermarket doghouse insulation kit for Alpha, doing it today so I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Yeah I was thinking about taking the insulation off, adding Dynamat, and then putting the factory insulation back on. As I've dug into the dash I've actually been really surprised by how much insulation it has.

5.4 exhaust

Hey Chris - for this 5.4 exhaust did you basically leave the passenger side intact, then cut up the driver side reusing the cats, crossing over the tranny, hanging below the pass side then join the two with a wye just before the muffler?
Thanks
Steve
