If you were building another one and had a choice between a 2003 E450 and a 1998 E350, which would you pick first. The 2003 has 200k miles with 158" WB and the 1998 has about 85k with 138". Both have a 7.3 diesel. The 1998 is a couple thousand more.

While people are asking V4 questions.

How do you like the 6" lift with 37" tires? Do you think it would be worth doing on a "full boddied" van? I'm completely ok with needing to massage the fenders a little bit.

What gear ratio are you running in your axles? What would you recommend for a 7.3L EB van on 37s that will tow about 6k?

Thanks.

I left phone message for a quote on a full installed stage 1 4inch lift with axles for a 2004 EB PSD and 6.0 bullet proof kit.
Thanks

I would stick with the 138" wheelbase if I were building another one. Sounds like the 98 is a winner!

Love it. So much that I'm thinking about going up to 40's :) Yes, I think fender mods to get 37's on a 6" is worth it. Keep it low, biggest tire possible! V4 has 4.56 gears. Just drove it on a 6 hr round trip, averaged 18mpg. I would recommend the same ratio for your setup.

Interesting...

So do you think 37" on 4.10 with a 7.3 would suffer or get sluggish as a overall use van (dd / roadtrip / offroad...)?

Cheers

Not neccisarily. Depends on the weight of the rig. Are we talking about the ambo?

Yes, Powerstoke Ambo. I don't think it will end up much heavier than a similarly equipped E350 since the box is all aluminum... And I rarely pull anything more than my M1102 can handle, give or take 3500lbs.

If you're gonna regear, might as well go 456. If not, i would wait

Aero drag will affect you more than the gearing at hwy speeds.

I have fresh 4.10 axles waiting for a UJOR facelift so I was more curious about tire size for those gears...

Cheers!
