I am going to be downloading my tracks from the GPS later today. What type of GPS files do you use? .gpx, .kmz? Or just GPS brand will do. I used a Garmin Etrex Legend for this trip.

Garmin Etrex would be great!

Still waiting for more photos...theres got to be more!?!
and for the rest of Ron & families radiator adventure,
wondering if the 'punch line' (cause of) the problem had anything
to do with 'puddle jumping' or more like small lakes, those were big and deep puddles.
Water is heavy and could probably do some damage to a rad. if hit too hard. hmmmm

Jason & Kristian:
Once again you guys did a fantastic job of handling a "mob" of different rigs...
What a great event!

Looking forward to the trip next year already...

Great pictures....We hope you can make it next year.

ps My wife's comment after we checked out your camper was "Why don't they make them like that anymore?" The inside layout is great.

I've got questions on air bags for you...

I ran across your build up thread while doing a search on air bags... I posted a few questions there if you wouldn't mind my picking your brain.

As for your wife's comment... I traded a few e-mails with the owner of Northstar campers... they bought Bethany out in the late 70's. He still owns the design. I urged him to dig the drawings out and think about how this camper fits with today's high gas prices and more adventurous lifestyles.
The design could be really cool updated with modern equipment.
Doubt it will go anywhere...

FJ40 boneyard

Good pics. How many FJ-40s did that boneyard have?

There were 4 FJ40's that we saw. They all looked in really bad condition. But we didn't go into the yard to look closer.

Yeah Rattler, we were kind of shocked to see so many '40's in one place after wandering about in the woods and having trouble negotiating the trails around Gratiot Lake. My GPS said the crossing over the outlet of Gratiot was not passable, but indicating that the trail seemed to be there except for a bridge out or something... My trail maps were correct. At the SSE side of the lake, it turned out that the old, small bridge was definitely there but not passable, but ATV's had made a short trail around it. It was a very narrow passage that everyone seemed to avoid. The trees narrowed to the point of making scratching sounds on your doors, but the crossing was maybe a 6 foot drop onto hard stones in 2 inches of water, I don't think I even stirred up any sediment, no harm. From there it opened up and we made our way around the lake. It seemed to be very many miles to get to any civilization, with a bit of backtracking to get to the NW side of the lake where there are gravel roads and a nice community of homes where we saw the cruisers. I was tempted to go up and talk to the owner just for a chat but it seemed to be unfamiliar territory, and with my cruiser being in better condition than his, I was afraid he might confiscate it.

This made me laugh! Thanks Rattler. It certainly was a weekend of Toyota's.

Just a personal note: I don't know if anybody else has had this problem since the trip, but I find myself at work and at home day dreaming about still being up in the beautiful UP, bouncing along on the trails, and camping at the most beautiful spots. Thinking about all the amazing people we met and shared the weekend with. Thank you to everyone, for making the UP weekend very special for me.

Hola de Chile! Just checking in on the thread. Mike and Teddi, great shots! I love that video on the Gay beach of the puddle crossing as well. Very cool!

Its funny how much I've been putting thought to next year's trip already. One bummer for me on this trip was that I didn't feel like I got to spend enough time meeting everyone. Next year's format will be better for that. Plus hopefully I won't have the SARS again. haha
