Ursa Minor Pop-Top Jeep JK

I'm having mine shipped up to Oregon. If I pick it up in California I owe them $500 in sales tax. If rather pay $700-850 to have it shipped than give California any money. haha

Then there is also the fact that I'd be driving down there with no top, might have something to do with it. ;)

That's understandable. My situation requires I drive there for pickup and install. Then I drive to MA where we are relocating to. I'll get to break it in on the way there during free National Forest week!

Great to hear yours will be done soon. When I picked up mine, I took off the original top, and I got a top cover (no sides) that I took off and rolled up when I got there. It was a bit loud going down, but at least it was warm...

I really like these J30s. Just makes so much sense! I am curious though, does it remove as its own individual component, or is permanently attached to the top? If I ever get another Jeep, the wife will absolutely require the ability to go topless, and I would be loath to deny her that opportunity :)

The j30 is a complete replacement hard top. It attaches in the rear with six bolts (like factory) and I believe two more bolts up front that mount through the roll bar. Picking it up would probably be a little awkward due to weight distribution but should be easy enough with a few people or a hoist.

That's half the fun of going to pick it up!

Wind in your hair, stereo turned up to DANGEROUS, hoping it won't start raining/snowing.

<thread hijack>If anybody is sitting the fence, definitely give J180s a good look as well. They might be less useful in the North West but the Nemo tent ended up really well done. It's roomy up there, like having the presidential suite on top of your jeep when you climb up in it.</thread hijack>

safe travels!

I think they list the J30 around 200lbs, then any add-ons on (or in) the top will probably be getting it closer to the 300# mark...I put mine one with the thought of very limited times I would actually have it taken off, but with the right set up I think it would come off very easily (Ursa Minor has a nice chain hoist set up to put it on).

Having removed it recently, the bolt pattern is as described including the two up front. Any standard jeep hard top hoist should work. I only had to move it around to work on the windshield seal (Jeep problem not J30 issue). I do not plan to take it off again, but if I do I am going to put eye-bolts in the ceiling and then use ratcheting straps to lift it up. I have seen many jeep forum threads on this. If I were going to take it off alot I would invest in a hardtop hoist as it is a little heavy/awkward for a two man lift.

I have a few questions to add:

1) Does the J30 block the signal to satellite radio\GPS receivers?

2) Are the pads removable and washable? I have a dog, so this is important!

3) How Blue\White\Yellow is the LED lighting?

It does not block the satellite radio signal. Didn't even phase it best I can tell. Pads are removeable, they seem like they are washable, but I have never tried. Probably a good question for John at Ursa Minor. And the lighting is mostly white, with a tinge of blue from what I can recall.

I have some more questions since people are asking and if people don't mind answering.

Is there a rear windshield wiper? Or is that not needed on the Jeep. I currently drive a Honda Element and use the rear wiper tons here in WA.

Has anyone had any problems with water leaking in the Jeep with the camper up or closed? I heard that some of the freedom tops leak if not properly alligned. I also heard that some RTT pool water around the floor edges when open. Any problems of that kind since I don't see a skirt on the Ecamper.

Anyone have custom racks on their Ecamper? I like the idea of the new tracks being mounted. Or D rings mounted on the sides? I need tie down points to carry large inflated river tubes during the summer. That is about all I carry on the roof compared to most people on here.

thanks for the info.

It is my understanding that if your Jeep has the rear wiper fitted, then it can be transferred to the new top. At least that's how it works for the Habitat I ordered. Some argue in a JKU the rear window is useless anyway. I will be installing a rear view camera to aid with the visibility problem.

I don't have mine yet so take it with a grain of salt.

My understanding is the rear window is standard with no wiper. I believe the holes are in the glass but plugged. I'm not sure if you can add the hardware into the glass or have to swap the rear window. I sold my top already but I never use the rear wiper even in rainy oregon. I use rain x on my windows which helps, but with a 35" spare and the big head rests I don't see much back there anyway, not close up anyway. My side mirrors are heated which cleans the water off well. It doesn't seem like water accumulates that bad on the rear unless its already dirty.

The tracks seem real common on the j30. The from mounts are fixed as a part of the hinge mount to the top as I understood. The fiberglass seems real solid, I would think you could mount tiedowns through it in places as long as it doesn't cut up the tent. Talk with John, he could probably install some tie downs for you during assembly. Or you could likely install some sort of tie downs in the tracks if you ordered them.

That's different from what Mario at AT told me in January. At that time he said it wasn't an option with the glass with the mfr they used. It didn't bother me either way, with the spare 35, AEV fuel tank, AT cargo rack, fridge, there isn't any window area to look out anyway. My J30 is still in production (2 weeks out) so I can't answer if it does or doesn't accommodate the wiper or not but
for me it isn't a deal killer.
