You are absolutely correct that the Ducato is Fiat's van. It therefore dependon the definition of "large". The Ducato is a front wheel drive, light duty vehicle, competing with the VW T5 (or T6 now), the light duty full size Ford Transit etc etc. Ford has a heavy duty version of the Transit (like a E350 vs E150). But like VW who uses the LT instead of the "Vanagon" and Mercedes using the Sprinter (vs the MB) for the heavy duty application, Fiat uses the Daily instead. IVECO is like the commercial vehicle branch of Fiat. Fiat does to my knowledge not have a heavy duty version of the Ducato. No, unfortunately. The Fiat Ducato is Fiat's van. It's also sold by Citroen and Peugeot.
Ford: In 2014 model year, the Econoline will be replaced by the Transit, Ford's large European van
Being a Ford fan, I've been following Ford's plans for their vans. From what I've been told by Ford insiders is that the Transit (not to be confused with the smaller Transit Connect) is basically replacing the E150 and that the E250/E350/E450 will pretty much soldier on as is. There are Transit "mules" currently in Dearborn with 3.2L 5 cylinder diesels running around. The big vans will probably share engines with the F-Series (5.0 & 6.2) and may even share the same diesel that the Transit is getting. From what I've been told, the 6.7L Scorpion diesel is too big for the E-Series and won't fit. We should know more early next year.
I don't think any of these new vans would like to tow my 5,000 pound boat around.
I think there might be a good replacement for my van when the 7.3 is done. when ever that is???
