At the moment I am just getting the 3 years of Utah dust out of it and trying to clean it up the best I can so we can use it. Hoping that by adding a mattress, bedding and camping gear in it as is will at least get us using it to see how to configure, once it is taken apart back down to the bare walls I only want to tackle that project once (fingers crossed) Hoping to figure out what the product is that Jonathon Ward uses on his ICON projects, it is a spray on something or other then Thinsulate over the top of that. Still much research to do. Thank you for the help and the link BK!!

Lizard Skin and Tempcoat both have sound deadeners that can be sprayed. There is an order, ceramic over sound or vice versa, but I can never remember which is which.

Cluster swap???***Edited

I have started looking at the Cruise Control retrofit and looking at my instrument cluster I do not see dash lights to acknowledge CC, does this mean I need to swap clusters too? Also my current cluster does not have a tachometer, if I can keep my current cluster I would like to add a Scan Gauge to address the lack of tach and add some other fun features as well. Thoughts, insights and comments are much appreciated. Here is the type of cluster that I currently have, the second one is the one with a tach, and lastly, is this the only wheel available with cruise?

minor update

ARB awning arrived w/ the extra room, I was so excited until I found out how ridiculously expensive simple metal machining is!! ( $45 a bracket to have 3" wide by 5"long/tall L brackets cut and drilled with 6 holes drilled in each one, bare metal not even painted or powder coated) I will snap a couple pics of my $4 a bracket solution as soon as I mount tomorrow. First shakedown trip is coming quick and lots of little projects to accomplish before blast off!

Awning installed (had to go to every hardware store in a 20 mile radius to find 4 that's right 4 8mm x 1.25 thread pitch nylon lock nuts) so what should have taken 45mim to an hour took all day

Chasing Gremlins

AHHHHHH the joys of pre-owned and modified vehicle ownership!! In today's installment ELECTRIC GREMLINS; I have not had a lot of time to drive the van around so when I get the chance I jump in and take it for a spin, I got down the road a clip and noticed that the stereo had turned itself off, then the ABS light came on, then no blinkers, :yikes: get to the grocery and proceed to take out every single fuse in the dash panel to find none blown, on a positive note I found that this van uses those little fuses not the regular ones I am used to. (need to exchange brand new box of fuses I just bought :) That was the extent of my parking lot sluthing, so I decided to just get it back home, started up and everything is working again,:Wow1: then the windows would not roll down, same drill turned off, restarted windows work again. I am guessing an open ground or short (yeah me, regular genius*sarcasm font here) now I just need to track the sucker down!! Happy Hunting!!

I'd add a length of flat bar at 45 deg between the two bolts furthest out on your brackets. The awning lively weighs enough to flex the brackets... given enough time they'll eventually crack/fail. The extra bar should prevent flex, and will also add a second bar that'd also need to fail.

Sorry Smurf but I am not following what you are saying, it's hard for me to visualize in my head, 45 degrees from where to where? The only thing I can picture is from the bottom bolt of the awning to the back bolt on the underside of the bracket/load bar, am I on the right track? (bolts :sombrero: )

I've been watching this van on Craigslist forever. I'm glad you finally bought it, because I was about to go check it out. Let me know if and how I might be able to help you out, since we are close. Love the new rig!

i think what he's saying is to connect your bolt closest to the thule mount (under the roof bar) to the lower bolt at the awning.

it would take a lot of flex out of those angle brackets and likely prolong its life and prevent me from running it over on the freeway on my motorcycle causing a flat tire with the effect of a tank slapper and possible concussions, skin grafts, or fiery death

just kidding about that last stuff.

Might want to rescind that offer :sombrero: but in all seriousness I would love to come check out Chili and see what ya got going on down there!

Let the shake down begin!

Chillin in Pagosa Springs, between the wife the dog and the van we have been getting plenty of attention.

Shake, rattle and roll, broken awnings and plenty to think about!

The shake down trip was a success in many ways, mainly, the wife was happy and approves:Wow1: The beast is SLOW (uphills especially and not great on flat land), rattles, A LOT, and has quirks aplenty but we are smitten! I lost track of how many people asked me about the van the interaction was great. Adding cruise control, getting the climate control working properly and getting the engine tuned are our biggest priorities, there is a weird hesitation when the RPM's are low, I did not notice this when I test drove it, but after spending some time in it, there is def something amiss. The suspension is still like a brick even with the RIP kit and need to work this out, along with the steering which seems very, very touchy, wandering is the best way I can describe it the slightest movement of the steering wheel has you constantly correcting, I got used to it by the end of the trip but it is still nerve wracking. The PO did an absolute ****ezen job of "insulating" and the the only fix is a total redo! We were really happy with the MPG's we avg 12 and this is going over passes and driving 65-70 when feasible(with a huge rocket and kayak in a equally huge basket). I am not a big fan of the sliding door and really miss my barn doors but I think we will get used to it with time, it also lends itself to building out the interior in a modified Westfalia fashion. Sienna seats are also high on the list, the stock vinyl seats are not that great, but the swivel passenger seat was nice to have. Going to need to figure out a better way to access the roof rack, especially after the SMB top gets installed, telescoping ladder most likely, and on that topic, the awning was a bust! After installation and the test deployment we got to our first camp site only to find the forward twist lock leg is completely jammed, like it took me and my brother twisting to get it to budge, once down getting it back up w as almost impossible, it is actually not in the holder and just rolled up with the awning. Once it was up we attempted to install the annex room to find that as it sits now the awning is a solid 8 inches to tall to properly fit the room on, so off it came, was really bummed about this as there was absolutely no shade any where near our campsite at the lake and it was HOT!!! (meanwhile my buddy with the same setup on a Westy was loving life in the spot directly in front of us  (A side note, when I called Auto Anything the next day to get a warranty claim the best they could do is say that they would get back to me, finally today, they said that I need to send it back before they would make a determination and send another one out, not super pleased, my buddy also had an issue although much less a functional one, a broken zipper on the cover, GoWesty sent him a replacement immediately) All in all we are happy and I know the addition of the SMB top and Westfalia style build out is going to make it that much better. Saw these Jeeps in Sagauche and had to stop and get a couple pics, then on our way through Buena Vista stopped to get coffee and spotted this nice CCV in the back lot.
***Ingress/egress, I forgot to add that we need a better way to get in and out of the slider, it is a climb for me and I'm 6', my wife, is 5'3" I thought I had seen some permanent retractable scissor style stairs installed in and E van, any suggestions I'm all ears!

I saw you posted something on the smb forum about changing out the dash when you add cruise control. My 2005 came with cc and there is no indicator light on the dash. I'm not sure any van prior to 2009 has an indicator light for CC. Maybe the 2009+ do though?

Thank you, this will save me some $$$$ and head scratching, I had CC on my 94 but could not remember if it had a light or not!! Junk yarding this weekend, I have a long list that keeps getting longer :)
