Introducing VanKrishna (now a build thread too)

Finally got some pictures to upload, hopefully they will stay oriented in the original positions in which they were taken!
My slider door would only open from the inside handle, decided to see if it was a diy fix and was pleasantly surprised to find it was only a loose screw on this weird little bracket.

After fixing the handle I found out my actuator is not working, was pondering how it mysteriously stopped working right when I fixed the handle, in ocd fashion I awoke in the middle of the night to realize that it must have been broken for awhile and the door never locked with the others and we never new because we had to open from inside, lol, palm to forehead.

Wish I would have gotten before pics of the slider track, I spent over an hour getting all of the mud and grease out of there! The po's solution for making it work was to pack it with bearing grease and apparently he just kept adding, it was ridiculous!

You can actually see the bearings now

Not sure why he put the ladder on the passenger side but at least it's there.

Think I'll use the vents that were installed by the healthcare company for a shore power outlet and water fill.

Finally got to use my EP Trasharoo!

Interior pics; I ended up ripping out the po's build as it just seemed clunky and our season is winding down so out it came.

This was his attempt at sound dampening, apparently this thin black stuff is used in high end home theater applications, not so sure about its efficacy in an Offroad van

The seats are in great shape but not comfortable, Sienna seats coming as soon as I can find a used set in Grey.

This is the flooring he installed, it is HEAVY and it STINKS!!! Reminds me of horse stall mats.

Was surprised that the drivers seat was in such good shape for a fleet/dirt bag rig

Minor surface rust, any suggestions on keeping it under control?

The slider hinge rollers are "sealed" rollers. Packing the slide with grease does nothing but make it attract and hold dirt. If you want smoother motion proper alignment and new rollers is the ticket. Or lift the edge of the seal and spray lube directly on the ball bearings in the roller. I can send you a PM about the hinge extension if you need one.

Crazy right? I had never seen anything like it, I am seriously bummed I forgot to take pictures. It works much better now :) That would be great MG!! Nice work on the kit and coming to the fun part of your "swap", which in my opinion does not do what you did justice, it truly looks like it came from an R&D lab of the Big 3, seriously would make my grandfather and uncle proud, you have no idea how much they used to geek out on stuff like that, peas in a pod!!!!

Thank you for the link, it is always helpful to see where others have found them, so far it seems that your thought process is the most thorough. Def aware it is a vacuum issue, just hate trying to track them down, especially after owning a couple Audi's :coffee:

That's usually a sign that the vacuum hose to the blend door is broken. Ford designed the system to default to the defrost vents in case of failure. If that era of van is still using plastic vacuum lines, the best thing is to replace them with thick walled silicone hose.

Got the key component of my interior build today, it's a Jack Knife sofa/sleeper. Scored it at an RV salvage yard it is new "old stock" black, glove soft leather and it is really comfy!! Did not really want black but for the price I couldn't even find just the brackets so black it is! The whole reason for this style is that it allows a free span under the sofa so I can slide my kayaks underneath and not try to kill myself getting them on and off the roof of a skyscraper and if I'm running shuttle all I need to do is turn the sofa into a bed and load on top. I will also be adding lap belts so if I do have more than one passenger they will have a "legal" place to sit. I like this set up for the ease of transformation as well, if I am traveling and just need to pull over to sleep I'm all set with a "downstairs" bed and or sofa for chill'n!!

For your thick rubber mat, if you leave it in hot sun for a few days most of the smell will go away. I know it'd be a pain to move out though. And my guess is that your ladder is on the passenger's side cause it's curb side... Safer to drag stuff up and down by the sidewalk than on street side ;)

I pulled that mat out as soon as we got back from our first trip, it's just piled in the carport, I could certainly drag it out into open. Good call/thinking on "curbside" it's just weird seeing it out of the passenger mirror, for some reason I am not getting accustomed to it.

Zeroing in on a top

I forgot to mention that I am forgoing a SMB PH in favor of a Med Roof CCV. I spent 2 hours down at their shop yesterday and was impressed enough with the various states of fabrication to get a solid quote to make a deposit for a late winter early spring install. All of the noise on the TS thread was just that, noise, the van in question was nowhere near as bad as I had imagined. (could things have been handled differently, ABSOLUTELY, hopefully a lesson learned by all) If you are thinking of a "pop-top" you owe it to yourself to a least check them out, the quality is there and the customer service is only going to get better, Matt really seems to be motivated and invested in getting the shop in alignment and running smooth.

GUTTED!!! Big spaces and a big dent!!!

Gutted the palace!!! Here is what I am left with.
This is what the po did for sound dampening/insulation.

Here it is without the denim. Driver side.

Cavernous, and loud, I was mistaken when I said it could not get any more ear splitting.

Here is my first big dilemma, there is an indentation the size of Texas in the rear floor.

Need to figure out wha to do to level this for my cork flooring I have envisioned.

JK Sofa mounting options/ideas??

Going to a metal fabricator tomorrow to see if we can come up with a permanent and quick disconnect bracket for the JK Sofa, thinking cargo E-track then I can slide the extension panel in place as well. The theme of the build has turned very utilitarian. I would like the cabinet with the sink and stove to be hooked into this E-track as well so I can easily change from the "camping" mode and have "cargo" mode!
Need to mount this;

QUESTION: I realize you said that the black vertical black bars where in there when you opened it up. but I was curious how they are held in?? I was thinking about putting something like that in to attach horizontal wood panels to but haven't found anyone that's had anything like that. The bottom appears to be bolted into the bottom, but I was curious if you had more info on that. thanks so much!

I believe they are bolted through the flange at the top, I will grab a photo tomorrow.

For your dented floor can't you just push it back from underneath with a floor jack and some wooden blocks? If not then I'd just fill the gap with any material that doesn't absorb water and can easily be shaped...

Introducing VanKrishna (now a build thread too)

Spent a couple hours this evening tracking down the vacuum leak/ problem, turned out to be a vacuum line that comes from the back of the engine snakes around the front of the engine firewall above the blower motor and bug juice filler,to the passenger side fender area and disappears into the abyss. After taking apart a bunch of unnecessary components, removing the battery, tearing half the dash apart and removing the passenger fender, ALL unnecessary, I simply ran a the broken vacuum line through a grommet hole in the back of the dog house and connected it to the line that was coming out of the firewall on the inside of the passenger foot well, fired it up and it works perfect and blows COLD, I wasn't quite sure as I have only experienced the watered down defrost mode that does not do much for cooling anything down. I will take pics tomorrow when I am putting it back together, I ran out of daylight:Wow1:
This is where the vacuum line was originally routed and the broken piece was in the top left of the engine bay
142e87dd23ca757df20d4e6623cfd7ed.jpg

The top wire heading to the right is the vacuum line that was at the front of the engine, I rerouted it back and through a grommet I removed in the dog house

Here is where I routed it through the dog house

This is the vacuum line that was in the passenger foot well, I pulled this out and spliced the two vacuum lines together
57f2af04d60e494beb1d3d32867a90c2.jpg

This is the end result and I ended up just tucking these up under the blower motor housing in the PS foot well
