The vacuum reservoir on the bottom of the heater housing is also prone to failure... Glad you found the source.

I now know why the mechanics charge so much to try and fix this type of thing, TIME, lots and lots of time taking things apart don't necessarily need to be taken apart but look like they could be related to the problem. Then there is putting those things back together and taking apart a bunch of other stuff, working in the engine bay of a van is a lot like trying to figure out a twisted puzzle with no rhyme or reason as to how it comes apart or how it possibly even went together in the first place. All in all this project took the better part of 2 days to get fully done, most of that in taking apart things that did not need to come out, none of which were easy to get out or back in, had I just figured out running and splicing the line it would have taken all of 30 minute :drool::drool: Regardless of the time it took, it feels good to have tackled this project and succeeded, nothing worse than going through all of it to only have to take it to a mechanic anyway!!
FYI/heads up: the air vents are not fun to try and put back together if you happen to mangle them in the process of unnecessarily pulling them out :( live and learn my friends, live and learn!!!

Can someone tell me what this is?
It's right behind the driver seat

This is what's printed on it, a Google search turns up NOTHING

These plugs are just hanging out but it sure seems that something was or should be plugged in to them

Probably the remote keyless entry box. I wish I had one of those... Other things in that area would be the memory lock module. I wish I had one of those too. Last thing in that area would be the speaker which mounts right behind the B pillar where the wiring goes up and to the back.

I am wondering if you made any headway on figuring out if you can retrofit a cluster with a tach? I found an 04 E150 in our local U pull it yard with one of those in it. I really want a tach... I haven't dug into that part yet.

On the CC note, I am adding it to my van. Here's what I know so far with a little background first. To begin, get the Ford wiring diagrams for your year. They are indispensable! I got both mechanical vols 1 and 2, the wiring diagrams, and the tranny book for like $60 on eBay. I thought, in my early research before I got a van, that Ford basically wired all the vans for all the options and then just plugged the boxes in for the options selected. That made sense to me. Easy to manufacture. Well, that's not the case.

I bought a 98 E350 bare bones no nuthin' for my platform. I was like, "I'll just hit the junk yards and pull the stuff I need." I did one better and scored a 2000 E350 Club Wagon XLT with a blown motor for $375! I got everything in one shot. I quickly realized that my main van did NOT have the necessary wiring. I have now had to buy a wiring book for the 2000 van (there were enough differences that my 98 didn't make 100% sense to what I was seeing in the 2000 wiring harness). I tore the 2000 apart and have both under dash harnesses ripped apart on my garage floor right now. There's a lot of wires for the pw, pl, pm, cc, 6 speaker system, and rear HVAC that my van didn't have. I'll get there.

I'm long winded, bear with me cause I am to the CC. I would recommend pulling an entire steering column with the CC buttons on the wheel and replacing the whole thing. No steering wheel puller, no messing with the airbag, no messing with the clock spring. All good things. Plus, in my case, I get a tilt column as well! Like I said, the 98 is a bare bones no nuthin'.

Curiously, in my van, I DO have the connectors wired, in place and stowed for the CC servo box and brake pressure switch. They are located under the radiator expansion tank. I need to see what pins the go through the firewall on to see if they are in the proper place.

Anyways, that's what I got for ya. I'll keep you posted when I get around to searching for retrofitting a newer cluster.

Body control module and upfitter plugs.

What's that do and what years/models of van where they in? I don't see one of those on my 98 or the 2000 component location view drawings. The first photo looked like a dead ringer for the remote keyless entry module according to the info I have. However, you know a lot more about these vans than I do.

The upfitter plugs were from the original build for the delivery service I take it.

Introducing VanKrishna (now a build thread too)

The bottle jack and 2x4 worked great for a fast and loose improvement on that massive floor indentation :sombrero: Shade tree body work at its finest, just don't looooooooooooook to closely:Wow1:

Anyone else have one of these in their gasser?

It's coming out of the driver side front engine compartment. I'm not sure what it is other than maybe a block heater? Any guesses ??

New mirrors and a sofa/bed installed.
Out with the old

Luckily my doors were cooperative and the bolts lined up perfectly

Only one of the bolts on the old mirrors were broken and was able to get it out with minimal problems

Even the plugs were the same, but access was a little tricky

I absolutely love the way they toughen up the look of the van.

The sofa mounting is WAAAAAAY overkill 1/4" angle iron mated to 1/4" flat stock tapped and died for 5/16 grade 8 bolts, I have no idea how to fabricate however I do know I do not need this stout of material for this application but, it is/was the only material that was available within a reasonable distance from the house. What I don't like is that it sits a tad to high (this is as low as I can put it and still achieve my goal of sliding both my creek and play-boats underneath)

Jack Knife out, Platform transformer up next

I am selling the Jack Knife sofa I just bought and building a transformer style bed that will work better for my purposes. The Sofa sits to tall for the clearance that I need for my kayaks so I am going to build one that will fit the space better and has a built in foot rest to accommodate shorter (ie my wife) passengers and still have the clear span needed for my kayaks. Lessons learned in the process of building a van interior from scratch, the biggest one thus far is to NOT get discouraged, things seldom workout exactly as you would like, hope, or plan so best to take it with a grain of salt and keep on moving steadily forward!
