Hi! Your cab looks amazing!

I am converting both my front seats to swivel so also need to have the option to remove the steering wheel.

Just ordered a hub for my 814d (as you mentioned) but can I ask where you bought your steering wheel? Looks like 5 bolt wheels are pretty rare compared with six bolt versions. . .

Cheers

Thank you for encouraging comments guys.

Regarding steering Wheel Steve; I bought a 6 hole steering Wheel and quick release due to difficulties finding 5 hole quick release.
I then used a drill press With coordinate table to drill and tap a new hole pattern in the Victor hub (used one of the existing holes).

I wanted to buy the Sparco R368 steering Wheel, but due to the deep dish it would come to close/high. So I bought a non-brand 380mm 6-hole wheel With very shallow dish from Ebay.
Even this steering Wheel sits approx 50mm higher than Stock due to the hub and quick release. I found it to be an improvement, but then again, I am 196cm high.

Thanks, useful to know how you did it. I was driving in her today and the stock wheel is doing my head in, it's so large it feels like I am Sailing a boat :088:

steering wheel

Those standard wheels are large, but I guess Mercedes made them that size for a reason.

Mine was pretty worn smooth, and felt horrible, I bought a new genuine one from Mercedes, it was`nt that expensive.

Do you have any pictures of the inside of the body?

An interesting build so far. Fantastic work in the cab! Looks like new. Good to see you are keeping the dual rear wheels. I'm of the opinion the more rubber you have in contact with the road the better!! Like the colour choice too!! The only thing I would think of changing is the shape/clearance of the rear wheel arch.. It needs more room (in my opinion) as it looks to hug the wheel... Once the body goes on it will make it sit even lower... Any way of making it resemble the front wheel arch? Just my thoughts tho! Keep up the good work and looking forward to the body taking shape!! How did the play in the snow end up? :)

Apologies for beeing rather unresponsive, started my own business in January, so not much time left for the handsome Vario.

I have not started to to build the camper body, so the only exisiting pictures are the earlier 3D cad renderings. Here are some Pictures of the cab:

The table / cooler / subwoofer I started to build a while ago, but finished the last bits and installed it this week.

Regarding the rear wheel arches, I agree that more air above the wheels would have been preferable from aestetic point of view, but as you can se there are not much steel above the wheel before you are reaching the bed.
I wanted the bed as low as possible to reduce total height and get best possible stability. So all in all a compromise.

Thank you for the comments guys.

Agreed - looks great! Nice work you did there. Just curious, any idea where I could get interior upholstery fabric like you have in your truck (similar color / pattern)? I am looking to redo the interior of my Mog and would like to use very similar or the same type of look you have on your truck.

That surely looks great - can I ask with Brand the swivels for your Sparco seats are? Got the same ones for my MB L608D (although I could not afford the leather version ;) )
Thx

Nice! Wish you the best of luck with the assembly! May I ask where you got the panels from, and what thickness they are? I'm about to tackle a simmilar job myself with the Unimog.

Weekend project was roof box with 2x100w solarpanels. Soon to be installed on the roof rack for Storage and to charge the truck batteries.
