Warfield Off-Road Land Cruiser Storage Drawers review

I have wanted storage drawers for my 80 for a long time. I had an idea in my head and tried to build it out of wood I had laying around, but the top "deck" ended up being too thin to support much weight and it looked like crap.

When I saw Warfield Off-Road's system in this thread over on Mud I was surprised because they were almost exactly what I had pictured in my head. I decided to buy from him because his kits are reasonably priced DIY, can be made any height with many different drawer configurations, and he has a good reputation on this site for doing quality work.

I asked for mine to be a basic drawer kit that would sit level with the second row seats, folded down, so I could throw a mattress back there for camping. I also asked him to add flip up doors on the side wings so it was easier to access the jack storage and the space could be accessed with the tailgate up.

Warfield's kits are available in different finishes, but I wanted mine to be unfinished so I could apply DIY bed liner. I narrowed my choices down to Durabak and Grizzly Grip because of the colors they offer. Grizzly grip won because their colors looked better and they had a special running for a gallon plus a quart and applicator rollers. I got a gallon of Grizzly brown and a quart of Santa Fe brown thinking that mixing them would be close to the color of the interior. It’s a little darker than I thought it would be, but it looks good.

Overall I am very impressed with Warfield Off-Road's system. Everything went together easily and it is rock solid. He has excellent communication and responded quickly to any emailed questions or requests I had. He also sells his kits for different vehicles.

Here is a very good link to an install. His metal sub frames were a great idea for mounting it.

I checked out the website- pretty reasonable prices. When you consider the time and headaches involved in the design of a drawer system, $250 or so isn't bad.

I like the idea of having storage and a sleeping platform. That's the biggest advantage of having an SUV, IMHO, is the ability to sleep inside. I wasn't sure if I was going to bother with drawers, but this set up has me thinking twice.

Any shots of the sleeping setup?

Thanks, There is still plenty of room between the top of the mattress and the headliner even with such a thick mattress.

Thanks for posting the pic. I'm definitely going to have to do this setup.

And just to clarify - The $250 price is for the hardware, subframe, and plans, but no wood. It is a few hundred more for the complete DIY system with wood. But I still think that is a great deal.

Get a therma rest and ditch the queen bed and you can situp in bed without banging your gourd on the roof.

Nice drawers. Thanks for sharing.
I have a similar set but not as spiffy. I may need to upgrade.

On a serious note...
Is it secured to the truck or just set in place?
If secured, How?

The reason I ask is that the best set up I have ever seen was the Kauffman drawers (no longer available) that latched into the 3rd row seat doo-hicky in the floor. Everything I have seen since seems to bolt thru the floor.

Good question.
They are secured using a metal subframe bolted to the floor. The 3rd row seat doo-hickies are removed and the supplied bolts are used in place.
