Low miles, locker - very nice find I don't remember that fancy wood grain dash on my old 4Runner. Should work well with the cappuccino maker!

I'll be interested to hear your ongoing comparisons between the Runner and your FJC in terms of off-pavement capabilities.

About time you start a thread on the 4Runner!

Hopefully I'll get another comparison in this weekend. There are some local Taco guys going on an easy run so it will be a good shakedown for the new suspension.

Really? All the other 4Runners I test drove also had this kind of wood grain. I did see one the other day that had a darker brown...thats actually the first time I've seen that color. I actually started to take it off because I hate it so much, but after spending over an hour getting the two panels off the back door I said forget it. I also didn't want to hear the shreek from Josh's mom when she came to visit and all of her beloved wood grain was gone. Now I actually kind of like it.

Looking good, Heidi. Let me know when you want to put the 4Runner through the gap!
All in good time my friend, all in good time!

Is that a cassette player?!?! AWESOME!!! :victory:

Heidi, very cool new ride. It has really changed since the last time that I saw it in person. Very nice. Keep up the good work. I can only imagine, based on what I have seen you guys do with R2FJ, that this rig is going to be one of the coolest on the road also. I look forward to seeing it grow up since I missed most of the growing up R2FJ did.

Why yes, yes it is! Actually its cassette and cd! :Wow1: Thanks for the kind words Laurence. This one will be nowhere near as crazy as the FJ though. I just need to set it up for myself since the FJ will remain the main rig for both of us.

Getting gear in the rig continued......

Mounted the Spot to the drivers side grip handle. This location has worked out really well because its close enough to the windshield to still get the signal out and its mounted facing me so I can monitor it.

1LegLance also hooked me up with this awesome Adventure Medical kit.

Finally, for anyone who lives in Arizona you know how important this mod was: 20% window tint all around!

April 5, 2009: Lift install

First of all I want to say a HUGE thank you to Tim (SOAZ) for all of his help, not only with the lift but with the 4Runner in general. He has answered endless questions from me and had the patience of a saint so THANK YOU!!!

Tim offered to help me install the front Icon coilovers for the 4Runner so we headed to his house Sunday morning to start the project. He's done this so many times it was over in a flash! Not only that, but Danica made us cookies and coffee to boot!

Tim also let us borrow some equipment to complete the rear Bilstein 5100/Performance Products install at home. All I have to say is what a pain! Whoever designed the rear shock mounts in this truck should be shot. Corroded nuts and bolts from SoCal didn't help any either! Also another big THANKS! to Wil at Sierra Expeditions. He also spent countless hours on the phone with me and answering my emails about suspension questions, calling the companies, etc. In the end I settled on the Bilsteins and he continued with his great customer service in getting them ordered up for me! Thanks Wil! :coffeedrink:

Clearly at this point in the install Josh has lost his mind:

I decided while we were down there I may as well do the rear diff breather extension. I wasn't too keen on mounting it in the gas cap area and I didn't have enough hose to run to the engine bay so I just ran the line up near the gas cap, which I think should suffice.

We also cut off 2 notches on the spring cones and I went ahead and removed the front and rear mud flaps. Looks better already.

Ok I think I've finally caught up here. I have a lot of plans and things in the works, but like with everything else it just takes time and money. Next up on the list and hopefully completed this year are:
Roof Rack
Fridge
Dual Battery Set-up
New stereo deck
Finishing up the little projects on my list

Of course things like bumpers, winch, lights and a snorkel are there as well, but I've got to save some money for my adventures too! :sombrero:

April 12, 2009: Castle Hot Springs

It was killing me to get out on some dirt and test out the new suspension, so Corbin and Mimi joined Caesar and I for a nice Sunday run out to Castle Hot Springs. The new suspension did great and it was a beautiful day for a drive!

And tonight I knocked another little project off the list: installing the Sylvania Silverstar bulbs. I have a very hard time seeing at night 9night blind) so I was looking for a reasonably priced upgrade from the stock bulbs. These were a popular choice over on Yotatech and also what we put in the FJ. They are no HID's but they are whiter and the beam pattern seems to be wider than stock so I'm happy.

The only thing I didn't like about the Silverstars is that they burnt out every 6 months or so for me. Expensive...

Ohh that is bad! So far we've had the set in the FJ for about a year an a half with no problems. Do you think it is the colder climate in UT that could have had that effect?

Does you 98 have daytime running lights?

I have those same lights in 2000 4runner with DRL and it has reduced the brightest of them. If it does have DRL disconnect it and save your lights some.

Had them in my Camry as well for at least two years with no problems (the cold climate I was in didn't affect them, like -F temps).
