On the ground!

First of all, thanks for all the compliments guys!

Looks great! Hows it feel with 33's and 4.10s on the 5.4? My 5.4 van project got put on hold as projects tend to do but I'll be building the same setup.

Actually if feels really good so far. I don't have a tach but have plans of purchasing a ScanGuage at some point so I can see what RPM's it's at. The shift points seem fine. The speedo reads fast according to my GPS, but I will focus on correcting it once I have the transfer case installed and the whole 4x4 set-up completed. I haven't figured out my mileage yet and I haven't towed our travel trailer yet but will post the results when I have time to figure them out :)

Hope you are able to resume your project soon!

Cheers,
Dan

4x4!

Well, almost a year after I started the 4x4 process, I finally had a chance to complete phase 2! Upon tear down of the tranny, we discovered that one of the output shaft bearings had given up the ghost which allowed for slop in the output shaft which in turn chewed into the case. D'oh! Wasn't expecting that. Couldn't even tell anything was wrong from the driver seat. Timing was good though as it could have been a lot worse had I let it go any longer! Needless to say, after a full rebuild with upgrades and lots of money I hadn't intended to spend on the tranny, according to my tranny guy I have a "Bad *** tranny that will never break". Sounds good to me. :)

It really hit me when I stepped back and saw that transfer case shifter coming up through the floor that it was really happening! I would soon have a 4x4 van! :wings:

On the lift. You can also see I removed the grandpa running boards. The plan is to cover the rockers with Monstaliner as soon as it warms up enough. Sorry about the terrible picture quality.

Fueling up for the shake-down run, a 200 mile round trip to get the exhaust y-pipe re-routed around the front drive shaft and transfer case.

All done and in its natural element!

Installed some cheap nerf bars that I bought off of Amazon. Was in a hurry getting ready for our Moab trip and settled for these as it was all I could afford. They work great as steps to get in.

And someday maybe some black wheels???

We made a trip to Moab over spring break with some family. Had a great time and put the little 5.4 to work!

I have also added some Air Lift air bags to aid in towing and a ScanGuage II. Hoping later this year we will be able to swing the pop top and move on to the interior.

And I realize these are all poser pics! Will get some pics off road as soon as I can get out and play a little. The snow is on its way out! :wings:

Cheers!

Van looks awesome! This will be a great adventure rig for sure.

If you want to an inexpensive way to have black wheels that can handle some rock rash, but removable when you want it to be you should check this out.

Get yourself a few cans of Plasti-Dip aerosol paint. It's a rubber coating that was designed for adding grip to handles on tools and such. Recently, many folks have been taking it to a new level and coating wheels, bumpers, trim, entire cars, gun stocks, etc. with it.

Go to YouTube and search for Plasti-Dip wheels, or just Plasti-Dip. You can get into some great ideas for your wheels on the cheap.

Well, about ready to get started. UJOR 4" kit is in and just picked up some axles and transfer case. Found out the van came with a semi-float rear end and couldn't justify spending the money to re-gear that axle. With the help of a friend, I ended up with a Dana 60 FF out of another van and a Dana 60 out of a 2004 Super Duty both with 4.10 gears along with a 271 t-case. Now just to find the time to dig in...

P.S. Chris at UJOR is awesome! Super helpful with questions and very quick to respond. Highly recommend doing business with him!

Looks great!

How much did the axles set you back? Im looking for the same except a D70 from a srw cutaway rear tank for the rear.
