What brand deep cell do I want?

Well I just purchased a sure power isolator and now am ready to get a battery. I have heard alot of mixed reviews on Optimas and spending $220 on a battery that may or may not perform would kill me. I am just using it to power my new Waeco cf-50 and possibly some small 12v lights in my popup. My question is can I get away with running a normal deep cycle marine/rv battery? I was ready to get a optima yellow top, then I was at Wally World today and saw a everstart deep cycle with 125 amp hours and 875 crank amps. It was only $75! I dont plan on running it super low, and it will charge once every other day at the least. If it does fail I can return it anywhere in the US. With an Optima I am kinda out of luck. So will this do the trick for me? Or be more trouble than its worth? Any advice or recommendations? $200+ for a battery is alot. Thats gas money or camp site fees for my trip.

Odyssey or Lifeline are both great options.

I ran 2 Lifelines in my 80 with zero issues!

Due to fitment issues i will be running an Odssey 1500 and a Lifeline 27 in my 100. The cost of both have gone up quite a bit recently, but i am still going to spend the extra $, as i feel its one of the most important pieces of the puzzle.

Batteries are the one mod, that i STRONGLY suggest not skimping on!

Sure you could probably save a few bucks buying another brand that boasts a big warranty and such, but warranties wont get you out of BFE nowhere!

EDIT: I will also note that Scotty B ran the Life Lines with zero issues on the Artic Expedition!

Thats my .02

That is good advice, what's another $100 for a battery compared to being stuck and having to get help. The guys from Adventure Trailer really like the DECA batteries and I've been impressed with the one in my trailer. I think the price is still steep but Mario was saying that they are still less money than some of the others.

Cool, Ill look into Odyssey's. Any chain autoparts store sell em? I am not tryin to skimp on price. I mean, I'll buy what I need. I just have heard alot of really bad things about optimas, and seems like everyone is running em.

X2 on the Odyssey! I have the 2150 and NEVER worry about being let down in the electrical power department. I could easily add a winch and a gazillion more lights and this battery would not flinch.

I got my odyssey 1700 from sierra expeditions! I plan on doing a 1700 main and a 925 backup only.

Odyssey PC1700 here too.

I got a GREAT deal from these guys at Quality Power, Get the PC 1700 with the metal casing, and you can seperate the batter from the casing (it's siliconed in there). I riveted the casing to the truck 6 times and it now serves as my battery tray, then made a custom bracket. I chose rivets because I didn't want the bolts increasing the height, nor cutting their way into the battery during offroading.

There is a thread about my various mods, including the battery work, here: http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/showthread.php?t=4512

I ran my Engel 45 off an Odyssey 1500 without any issues. The only time I drained it to where it wouldn't start the truck was when I left the fridge turned on, empty, closed up in the back of my camper shell on two 100* days without running the truck. Jump started it and after that it never gave me any problems.

I'm now using it on my trailer to run the interior lights, propane detector, and the furnace. So far it's held up great, but I do plan on replacing it with something a little bigger since I have the space to do so.

I've never seen Odyssey's in your typical auto parts stores, but my local Cabelas does carry a rebadged Odyssey (which is just an EnerSys battery) that is sold under the Trolling Thunder name. It's either a 1700 or a 2150, can't remember which now.

From what i understand the Lifeline batts accept a higher current than most, would they be better in this respect to Odyssey, group 31's seem to be similarly priced. I have heard good things about the Deka.... Im also in the process of making a similar decision, decisions decisions!

Tress, I don't think you're confused. I think most Odyssey batteries are listed as "dual purpose", meaning they can be used as a starting battery and can handle deep discharges better then a typical starting battery. My understanding is the Lifeline is a battery built specifically for deep discharges and not necessarily starting duties.

That was the reason the Odyssey appealed to me when I purchased it. I was looking for a single battery solution, so I needed both the cranking amps and the deep discharge qualities. When I replace the 1500 on my trailer, I'll be looking at true deep cycle batteries, like the Lifeline.
