What exactly is the advantage for the metal jacket?

Other than the additional protection, the company claims it helps keep the battery temperatures down.

Check out the possibility of two 6 volts, i just ordered two 300ah 6v for $70 less than it would have cost me in 12v, plus there more manageable

My Optima yellow top is dying at just 26 months since new. My Vector smart battery charger says that it either has an open cell or is sulfated. If the DieHard is a drop in fit I'll get one because of the warranty being superior to Optima's.

P-4 34/78DT looks about right but they are 0.9 wider than the Optima which might be a headache with the hood's gas strut. The mouning point might be different too. Sigh. It would be a PITA to rework the tray.....

I have an Odyssey 2150....2 actually. I bought them from my work for $20. They use them for 6 months and then replace them with new ones whether they need it or not. :wings:

Same with me. My Vector battery charger is giving me the code for open cell on my 17 mo. old Optima yellow top. Now I'm deciding whether to get another one or see if I can fit a different battery in the same location (an FJ Cruiser, so the space is identical to yours). I know others are fitting Odessey 1500Ts in the same location but I'd need to get a new battery tray. Damn.

I just bought the group 31 Sears Platinum Marine battery with a 100ah reserver (maybe 105) for $249. Only about $60 more than a 55ah Optima and fits in my 4Runner without too much trouble.

The Sears one seems to be the best bang for the buck out there, plus a full 3-year replacement.
