What did I get myself into?

Some more work today..... I need to get some stiffer springs for the trailer... I think they're at the end of their useful life... I believe that these use the CJ2A front leaf springs so I'll be looking for them now...perhaps in a one inch life version so that would allow the trailer to be perfectly level with the 4runner.. The tent floor is exactly 6 feet from the ground which makes it perfect for the annex. Anyways.. Some pics

I almost traded a couple guns for one of these trailers today. The cancer was worse then the pictures showed so I passed up the deal.

I've got some pretty bad side to side sway on this trailer.... I know the tent is mounted a little too high but I wanted to have full use of the annex room... So I looked at everything else once again to double check and realized the leaf springs were completely shot as the driver's side had negative arch and was about an inch lower than the passenger side, that in conjunction with the fact it never came with shocks made it a no-brainier... Also the bushings on these things are bronze, not rubber as I thought they were and it appears as if they've become a bit wallowed out.... Hopefully this'll solve most of my issues.... I know it isn't an issue of tongue weight as I weighted it and it came out to about 15-18% on the tongue.

Splurged a little bit today and got myself the following:

All from Walck's Jeep

NOS upper shock mounts off a willy MBT x2
Monroe shocks x2
10 leaf front leaf springs from a 1949 CJ2A x2.... Made in USA
New Ubolts
Spring plates with shock mount x2
LH and RH threaded C shackles for CJ2A
Pivot Bolts x2

This project will be the death of me

Unfortunately with the holidays, I'm gonna have to wait a bit for everything to ship...

Ive gotten all the parts in, a local garage has graciously allowed me to use a section of their back room so i can work on the trailer out of the rain and the cold on monday.... Needless to say im excited!

What a long day!

I would never ever wish 70 years worth of rust on my worst enemy! I emerged victorious but golly gee, I had my *** kicked...... The torches had to come out, the saws all came out, the breaker bars came out, the air hammers came out...after all said is done, it rides so much better and I've decided to bring down the RTT to tub level to get better center of gravity

Pics....

Really glad I got new Ubolts... These were just about done

That's all rust on the floor.... The leaf springs snapped as I pulled them out

The upper C shackle bolt just did not want to come out, a BBBFFFFH gave it some persuasion

Felt very conscious and aware of my surrounding as this was a $300,000 Bentley back in the day... Some kind of limited edition I think a turbo RT mulliner or something like that

One would wonder if it would have been easier to build a trailer? It's funny that we all have been in that position on one project or another. The trailer will be in good shape when your done. Nice work.

It never ends!

Big sale at Harbor Freight on top of the cheap prices they usually have so went ahead and picked these up to install when the weather gets nicer... It's pouring rain at the moment...

Now that I'm pulling a trailer, I had forgotten I wouldn't be able to carry my bike rack anymore so I got this receiver to bolt onto the rear of the trailer to carry my bikes as well.. Will need to make a plate from frame rail to frame rail to support this and prevent any flex and also serve as a frame stiffener as well

Also picked this tongue box up for a song as it had a few dents on the back from being a floor model

Finally had some time to drill out the holes and spray on some bedliner on the 1/8 plate that will bolt to the bottom of the frame in the rear for the bike hitch and also to stiffen it up a bit... The 4 holes in the middle are for the hitch itself.... Waiting for it to get a bit warmer so I can drill the holes in the frame and bolt it in

It was a relatively balmy 38 degrees here today and sunny so I thought I should do some more work and boy am I glad I did... Was able to mount the receiver plate and the receiver hitch.... Took me a bit longer than I expected as I wore out two 1/2 inch drill bits and one step bit, although that was partly my fault as I have a crappy drill and I didn't use penetrating oil

Getting closer and closer to being fully functional..... Picked up a set of 4th gen 4Runner rims with some good rubber on it.... Now I've got to wait for the axle that I ordered last week to arrive then I can go about installing everything
