Expo Scrambler...

Been slaving away trying to get my CJ back on the road. Today I rebuilt the rear leaves so it wouldn't drag its butt anymore. Kinda a hack fix but it only has to get me on the boat to bring it back to the states. :) Also burned in the spring mounts and finished building the rear drive shaft. Still have a lot to do like rebuilding the floor, building seat mounts, And about a billion other things... :) Plus have to get on the XJ soon as well! Busy busy!

I did the same as PakRatt, changed out a U-joint on the rear driveshaft:

It was a little dry, LOL

While the TJ was on the lift, I checked it over, and found the long side axle joint was going out.:snorkel:

So I swapped in my spare shaft, and I'll get a new joint and fix the bad one.

You can see the edge of the cap starting to split.

After riding around with no front speakers since I bought my XJ I finally got a wild hair after work and bypassed the factory speaker harness into the driver's door with new wire. Maybe I'll fix the passenger side speaker tomorrow...Not a hard job but being dark out and in the 20s and not having a kneeling pad for my knees on the concrete, fixing one side was enough for the evening. On the up side I discovered the previous owner put Alpine speakers in there which saves me from having to replace factory speakers.

Hill...what causes that?

Fair wear and tear for the most part. Over time, heat thins the grease which works its way out. From there you have metal to metal contact and its only a matter of time. Plus, since HB lives in salty road-ville, that can expedite the process. :)

nice! did you have to cut off the factory plugs? I need to figure out a way to keep them as we have state safety inspections. I guess I can always remove the light completely (nothing says it has to be there) when that time comes.

About a week ago I found a pouch at the Goodwill that actually fits in the glove box. The factory owners manual pouch is nice, but was a huge waste of space sitting in there at a 45 degree angle. Scored this one on half price day for $.39. Found another zippered bag to put my ARB tire patch kit in, that blow molded case is too big.

Overhead Console

I finally went to the JY and found a Console in a 2001 XJ. It cost $30.00 and is in perfect condition. I removed all the factory Displays and installed Dual LCD Meters for the Main and Auxiliary Batteries, LED Light Strips, 4ea. 20 amp Switches that
control Remote Relays for all Aux Devices. Separate Switches for all Interior Lights. It was a real pain to install but totally worth the effort. I forgot to install the Cover for the Wiring Harness before I took the Pictures so that's why you can see wires in the center of the Console. Oh the most important part of this modification is all interior and exterior Aux Lighting and Devices are powered by the Auxiliary Battery and not the Main Engine Battery. The next mod is the Dashboard installation of the 3 Radios, UHF, VHF and CB. They will also be powered by the Aux Battery. Fun

JD nailed it, regular wear and tear, and being a DD and a wheeling rig, it hits even faster than it would a plain commuter car.

The salt certainly doesn't help anything!

As far as the cap splitting on the front axle, I think it's a couple of things.
One, being dry (same as the rear U-joint) it starts the cross shaft rattling, and it puts stress on the cap.

Two, I have an Aussie locker up front, which puts more stress on the axle joints when turning tight

Having the wheel turned to the max, put's the u-joint at an extreme angle, which in turn puts more stress on the joint when there is power to the front axle.
