So I'm thinking about selling my xj. I've got a lot of expedition esque modifications and I'd like to sell them with the truck. So I'd like a little help from you all with a little insight for what I should hope to get for it.

Alright so here's what I think are key selling points feel free to ask questions just a's if you were buying the car.

1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4x4 automatic, 4.0 I6 high output 135,143 miles

Interior is nice and clean
Heater works, ac works
Electric fan is on a switch
Speakers are all stock
iPod hook up/charging JVC deck
optima red top battery, dual yellow top.

It has a rubicon express 4.5 inch lift.
BFG all terrain 32s
Pretty big safari roof rack with 6 gutter mounts
Hella off road lights
1 5 gallon metal Gerry can and mount
Hi lift jack on drivers side and ARB awning on the passenger's side The biggest one.
Home made spare swing down hitch carrier.
Gas tank skid, engine and tranny skid.
MORE bomb proof motor mounts
Home made steering reinforcement plates.
Solid diff cover on an Aussie locker in front Dana 30 stock gearing
ruff stuff diff cover on rear open 29 spline 8.25 stock gearing
shocks are less then 5 k old
Transfer case and diff fluid is New and clean
Ok. Things that I think it needs
Slip yolk eliminator, no vibes but it has a transfer case drop which was supposed to be temporary.
More armor. Mainly rock sliders
Some type of new air filter would be an improvement.
Other than that is pretty much a really realistic jeep, it has been for a while and I've taken trips the trips to prove it. So that's about it. Here's a few pictures, thanks in advance

Yeah, If selling the jeep a little equipment type-O can turn serious buyers off...Giving the impression it is a "Kid's" Jeep. Other than that I would say 3500-4000 would be a good price for a clean XJ like yours.

thanks, i guess it is a "kids" jeep, I'm only 18 but that's still no excuse for the amount of times I've looked at my engine.

You don't know how many Jeep adds I see saying it has a V6. Even dealers do it. Mostly it just ticks off Jeep people. You have a nice looking Jeep.

That's a very nice XJ you have there.

Food for thought on selling modified vehicles:

Sometimes the sum of the parts is worth more than the whole. I would ask $3800 and expect $3500. You can get this price while keeping everything you have on the roof. Selling these items separately will earn you cash much quicker, and, ultimately, net you more total cash in the end.

Whenever I seek out an XJ, or anything else, I try to find one that has already been modified. This is because it is always cheaper to let someone else perform the modifications, because they do not tend to raise the resale value much if at all. For example, my current 1998 XJ came with RE 7.5 longarms, 5.5 full leaf packs, 35" Baja Claws, tons of skids, C4x4 fab bumpers with tire carrier, etc. All this, plus only 100,014 miles on the clock for only $3500. I could probably sell everything off part by part, and turn it into $5000 or more.

Hell, I'd probably buy your ARB awning from you if you want to get started now. I think you should keep this XJ though, it's really nice.

Sorry, I'm studying marketing...Don't take it personally, I'm only trying to help.

Oh, and as far as getting it sold, it wouldn't hurt to apply a fresh coat of wax; hit the wheel wells with some black paint; pressure wash and degrease everything; clean the glass in and out; vacuum; try to remove any stains in upholstery or carpet, and armor all the interior (non glossy stuff).

Do all this and take some really good pictures, perhaps on the top of a parking garage, near a lake, etc (try to copy pics you've liked in magazines or on the web). Hell, you might go so far as to take pics of your girlfriend wheelin' it or even washing it. Sure, it's a bit cheesy, and maybe even a bit sexist, but it works.

I know this sounds like a lot of work, but if you combine some clean XJ pics with some fun wheeling pics, and put together a nice, simple ad, you will sell this thing really quickly and get the money you deserve.

I realize most Jeepers don't care about a little dirt, but if you are serious about selling a vehicle in this economy, and with the current gas prices, you have to be prepared to sell to anyone who shows up with cash, not just the die hards out there. Don't forget the mall crawlers.

Keep the ad short, sweet, and organized. People have short attention spans when it comes to searching for vehicles online. If your ad is cluttered, they will just move on to the next one. You only need to highlight three areas: Price, location, benefits. Consider the title: 1996 Jeep Cherokee Lifted, Locked on BFGs.

In the wording of the ad, try to reinforce why should they buy your XJ rather then the hundreds they find in Craigslist? You have A/C and it's summer; you have a locked HP D30; it's reliable; most of the upgrades are still new, etc. Be sure to shed the best possible light you can. Don't include things such as "what it needs;" if it doesn't have vibes, it doesn't need an SYE, and if it needs an air filter, replace it.

Sounds like really good stuff to keep in mind, thanks for the constructive criticism. I've got a few more pictures like that. I just actually got the awning I've only opened it in front yard. Super lame I need to go take it out and get a few pictures like that.

A sweet picture ALWAYS help sell pics. Find a photo geek friend, buy him dinner and let him shoot your shoot your jeep for you. It will pay off.

Ive sold probably 20 cars in the last 7 years and only lost money on 1 of them.
