Jonathan, thanks for taking the time to make that earlier post. Very well done and I agree completely. You should sticky the thread because in another week we'll have the next installment of the same subject.

I wish I was as articulate as Jonathan and some of the other folks here in expressing my viewpoints. I also wish that people would pay attention to what is going on here in regards to the OP's intentions with his posts to Expo. The first time he was asked to explain his position on another thread, we were all treated to a "goodbye cruel world" type retreat. Many posts later, it's the same ol rhetoric with no explaination.

To gain an understanding of Brian's position, I took his advice and visited his blog. The first thing I saw...
Brian echoing selective posts from Expo rather than responding to the questions posed to him.
http://briancrichardson.blogspot.com/2009/03/expedition-portal-expo-in-their-own.html
This guy sure is fond of selectively reposting stuff and I'm really not sure what his goals are with this. Wouldn't it be easier to post a link to the thread? Afterall, he claims to be too busy to respond to questions asked of him.

I'm not interested in a pissing match, but I question this person's motivations and the nature of his posts. I thought being a good member of the community was to participate in it. Maybe I'm taking on the role of the crazy neighbor down the street, nosing into stuff I shouldn't. Maybe I'm bringing something to light that people don't want to talk about. If you tire of my responses to these threads or have advice on how to move past them, feel free to PM me. I'll happily move along if that is what people want.

Good Day ExPo

If ExPo & OJ had a statement like this " We are a Pro Access board and feature access issues as soon as we find them." that I have on another forum that greats new visitors this all could of been avoided. Source Just Good Trails.

Yours should state that we passionately support & promote Wilderness, The Wildlands Project/Network & vehicular based Overland Travel.

Even with my growing up in the back of a Jeep CJ-6 doing ExPo travel starting at the age of 3 (1967) that is foreign & concerning ideology to people like myself.

It became evident with my "New President Now What" thread that the Conservation section here on ExPo is unlike any other of the OHV forums I have visited.

I do wish there were more posts promoting & reporting on actual projects like Cleanups, Site Stewardships, Leave No Trace/Tread Lightly training, Trail Work & Ride A-Longs ect. These are things I'm passionate about & have forged great relationships not only with other types of users of our public lands but also with those at the agencies that manage them.

One example of a benefit of being involved & out there with them is I was able to call (personal Cell ph) to warn my local BLM recreation planner of a major problem at a local trail that needed to be addressed on a Sunday afternoon.

I feel my presence & postings ExPo appear to cause more harm than good. So I hope you follow the amazing example & leadership of your fellow ExPo member 1LegLance. While Lance & I may not agree on Wilderness I highly respect the work he is doing in conservation & access for disabled users like myself.

I was going to address questions & statements made my some of the Core group but feel it is pointless when I see stats, PR, & ideology from groups like the Wilderness Network & faux Multi Access group like Recreational Trails Alliance.

Hey Jeff/agavelvr in regards to your hate mail, most who are passionate about LandUse experience it no matter were your stance is. When my gets really bad I watch this chuckle and go on with life. EDIT "This is not directed at anyone! the last email her reads makes me laugh no matter how bad things get."

Don't worry its safe to open & while I doubt we could ever find any common ground I still encourage you & others to do projects like Lance & I do.

In the years ahead our agencies like the BLM will have a even higher burden with millions more acres of wilderness. People like myself will no longer be able to be stewards & our lands/agencies need all the help they can get.

Thanks for reading

Brian,
We do have one bit of common ground, we agree that Expo is unlike any other OHV Forum out there. It is so kind of you to offer up an opinion on how Expo & OJ should classify themselves. Meanwhile, you continue to avoid the questions posed to you on this and other threads. I continue to question the motives behind your posts, and I encourage others to do the same.
Even your response in:http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=366560&postcount=36 is filled with inaccuracies.
I was going to address questions & statements made my some of the Core group but feel it is pointless when I see stats, PR, & ideology from groups like the Wilderness Network & faux Multi Access group like Recreational Trails Alliance.
Hmmm....did you copy/paste this from the wrong forum? I think there is a few of us who are interested in you answering the questions rather than dragging this into the mud again.

Forums are supposed to be avenues of communication. If I were interested in reading your monologue, I know where to find it. In the mean time, I respectfully request that you follow up on the questions directed to your statements. It would be great if you did not view them as attacks, rather opportunities for you to support your position and bring clarification to the conversation. You are very adept at snipping & reposting, so it should be no problem for you to find these unanswered questions. Just look for Agavelvr if you are having problems locating them.

When you have a bit of free time, may I recommend the movie 'Grand Torino', perhaps some applicable lessons could be found.

I have been told that membership at Expo is free, and you are able to cancel without penalty or obligation at any time.

Wilderness is not a burden, getting people to respect it is.

You got that right, Brian.

As you've discovered, most of us here think there's room for 4WD country and wilderness. The more of both, the better. Weird, huh?

Go ahead and pull that quote for your blog, okay?

You fail to mention that in the years ahead agencies like BLM will be burdened by millions more people trying to get into all the lands, no matter how they are designated. Land is a static resource, and by 2050 we are projected to have 439010000 people in the US. That's a 41% increase over today. Pressure on land is only going to increase, and that pressure is what IMO is leading to closure. I suspect that sometime in the not too distant future access to land will no longer be considered a 'right', but will become a privilege. Rue the day.

cheers

Unfortunately, right there you lost me. If you truly believe that, and don't believe there is a place for wilderness in our country, a debate or even a discussion between us would be pointless.

While I do feel Wilderness has it place it also has it's failures. That some lands that deserve protection would be better served by a additional designation like BackCountry.

I am pro multiple use access and that access is a right that comes with responsibility.

The blog entry I don't view as negative or positive but best examples from you in my understanding were your passions are. Intro could be better but I'm trying to illustrate that how we define some concepts & words differ. This can lead to misunderstandings & divisiveness.

To quote Jonathan this is pointless. but has been a enlightening experience.

Feel free to delete my account.

Uh huh.

Okay.

Now we've reached the prevaricating stage. Sigh . . .

A perfectly clear statement in the first post, "Wilderness designation is a failure," is now, "I do feel that wilderness has it (sic) place."

Brian, it's frustrating for many of us to accept a thread at face value as at least honest and expository, and to address it head on with a considerable amount of time and thought invested, only to be told, "Well, that's not really what I meant."

As I've mentioned, contrary opinions are entirely welcome here. However, they really do need to be consistent if we're to gain anything at all from them.

End of thread. Thanks for your participation!
