Where to mount my kayak? Side mount or HF trailer?

I think I am going the trailer route. My buddy has a vintage Uhaul trailer is selling me. I plan on lifting it and polishing the aluminum to make it like a Airstream trailer. And add a roof rack on it to haul kayaks, plywood, etc..

I've been on the hunt for one of those!

For what its worth, here's my kayak trailer. I don't have a photo of it with the rack on it, but its the 40x48 in version. I attached a Rat Pack drawer slide tool box to it and added unistrut to mount the kayak mounts to. Kind of a cage around the box.

We've taken the trailer camping several times fully loaded and had zero issues.

Side mount... ??

two considerations
maximum width in most states is 8'6"
Your mirror on the kayak side will need a massive extension.

Even if you fit the dimensions issue you might need clearance lights at night.

why not lift the solar and build a kayak garage under them

Keep the U=HAUL signage..... it is the the best antitheft device ever.
I love the idea of polished aluminium but bling attracts thieves.
