Which Overland Vehicle and Why?

An alternate option here is to not let vanity drive your equipment purchase decisions. I don't know about the rest of you but I can't even see the outside of my truck from the inside.

I don't know about the rest of you but I have been seeing hail dings in the hood of my truck just fine for the past 6 years from the cockpit.

Right now I am pretty much just going to rebuild the front end of what I have (new upper control arms/ball joints, tie rod ends and alignment) so I can finish putting new tires on my rusty trusty F-150 and keep running it. After 15 years I wouldn't mind something else though, I am just having a hard time finding the "something else" to look forward to. I would not mind having a nice looking (to me) daily driver again. Not sure where that puts me on the vanity scale but wherever it does... I guess that's where I am at.

It wasn't all about looks, but more about configuration. I wanted a longbox extended cab (same cab size for all the trucks I've had) Ram doesn't offer this configuration, and GMC/Chevy only have the forward opening doors. I had the suicide rear doors on my GMC and much prefered them to the quad cabs on my Ram.

And I kinda hate the suicide doors on my F-150...

I wouldn't consider myself a vain person, as I much prefer work truck looks over show car. But I can't bring myself to ever consider something like a Titan, Cybertruck, Aztec, etc even if I can't see it from the inside. I've got my limits.

Suicide doors....I don't like them. I've got kids, so having to open my door to let them out/in would be annoying.

I have been mulling one myself.

Good looking truck that is competent offroad, has plenty of room for a rear facing car seat or two and is still decent for towing.

The whole baby seat thing is one of the things (along with cost, lack of power, pathetic transmission, dismal fuel economy, and the uncomfortable interior) that made me jump from looking at a Tacoma to an F150.

Tacos been off my radar for 2 years because of what you mention.

I was all wound up for a Ranger until we played with one last weekend. Pretty sure the car seat won’t fit in the back, wifey was not happy with legroom on PS... so there goes that.

The backwards facing car seat is a game changer on vehicles especially if your over 5ft 10 and don’t want your knees against the dash.

One of the reasons the 2010 -2020 Subaru Outback is popular. One of the few midsized vehicles that fit rear facing kids seats and 6ft parents

Yes, that’s correct. I think the Outback is maybe the only one out there with decent amount of room. Too bad they don’t come with lo range. It’d make an excellent family adventure vehicle that could also tackle some decent trails.

Yup
I just sold my 2010 probably my last Subaru after 20 yrs of Subarus. Last few yrs have been really disappointing regarding major parts quality failures and inconsistent parts quality. My 2010 missed all the 10-11 parts issues but my buddies with various other models and newer have all had pretty major failures related to parts quality problems. Bummer given I like the company.

My folks raised all of us in a Beetle and a reg cab C10 and now apparently nobody can have kids without a crew cab and a 3 row SUV :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
Sports and ride sharing. My two kids transform into 5-6 kids 2 days a week. Other parents haul my kids the other days. Its a thing...

Same, ‘81 C10 and some little Buick car when I was little. Dad even added a fourth lap belt to the truck for when my brother came of age (4-5 lol)

I go farther more often than dad did with his pickup, it was rare for him to need a pickup more than 30 miles from town. Right now I have my inlaws trailer I need to return an hour away...
