As yet another Buff ('87-'92) I have to say that you are INSANE to already own a 40 and even think about going to school in Boulder without it. That and a mountain bike is all you need......

01' Aero, CU...

Get yourself a decent MTB (and some pads), a longboard (with wheels), and park the 40 except for Friday and Saturday nights (and some Thursdays and Sundays), and weekend trips. BTW with roommates you can rent in BLDR for 350-500/mo off campus, if you live somewhere like the Hill or similar you won't need to drive to class, just point the board downhill...it's actually quicker than a bike or skates since it doesn't need a lock and comes in with you.

Don't sweat the second rig. A lot of people carpool to the lifts, 10mpg and a short wheelbase is no way to attack the passes in a snowstorm. You'll meet a lot of people with AWD cars, and quite a few with already built Tacos and Runners to get to the hill. Bring a few bucks for gas and you're GTG.

Besides, unless you have a ready financial solution, you can drive the 40 and come out of college debt free vs loan and vehicle debt on a second rig. Dunno what your situation is, but in the long run like Dave and others have mentioned you're better off saving now and going big later.

The 40 is ready to rock, and it'll be easier to park than anything else, particularly a Tundra ;).

Or...if you need more space, you could get a Chaser :p.

yeah, I trying to think about the logistics of getting the 40 there. Once its there it would be great. When I was there alot over people were riding long boards, seems like it would be fun. My inability to stop might hold me back on that one, but ill try.

The other thing I was wondering about was where they hide the gas stations in Boulder?

There's a bunch of them along Broadway. At least one near the campus (I think it's a 7-11 store that sells gas.) Not many downtown, is that what you're talking about? I often bought gas for my bike at one of the stations near Table Mesa and Broadway.

Help guys, opinions needed!

First off, I must say I really value the views on this forum. A much more mature croud then some other forums I've seen, anyway.. Well ya'll, I sure have a dilema. My wife is sooo going to kill me. I recently sold a very off road modified 2003 4door Tacoma and bought a new Dodge Power Wagon. I read so many good things about the Power Wagons and man they really do kick butt. They are by far the most capable stock pickup ever built. The trouble is, they are EXPENSIVE TO OWN. I figure it's costing me 1000 dollars a month to own it. We just had another baby and now my wife just informed me she's only going to go back to work part time. Crap! Anyhow, I've only had the Power Wagon for 6 months, and now I have to sell it. Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome truck, but to be honest it's too much truck and way too spendy. I am thinking about either getting a 97-00' 4Runner or Taco. I have two young kids and a wife and a doggie. I camp and raft and 4-wheel a lot, and I also need this for my daily driver. I REALLY would like an adventure trailer at some point also. My budget is approx 10 - 15 grand. Any suggestions???

What about putting the 10 to 15 grand into paying off the Dodge , then refinancing to lower your monthly payment?

I wish! , I'm talking about financing the 10 grand. (This would give me a 200 dollar payment.) I figure a 10-12 year old 4 Runner 200 payment, 80 insurance, 200 month gas max.- total- 480 month operating cost, much better than the 1000 month operating cost I have now. I was just asking opionions on 4Runner vrs Tacoma.

Oh, I hear you and I'm not one to talk anybody out of going Yota. I would go with a 96 - 2000 4runner considering the family, more space and still a compact, capable trail rig with a 3.4 v6.

I am real familiar with the Taco driveline but I am wondering about the 4Runners? They have the center diff lock correct?? How is the durability of that set up opposed to the Tacos set-up?

96-00 4runners did have the option for a rear locker like the TRD tacomas, but its not like a TRD package, doesnt have the TRD decals so its a little harder to find if it has the locker or not.

the 01-02s had the center lock basically.

id look for a 99-00 4runner, had cupholders in the center console, a little better interior, and could also come with the option of a locker. if you want a manual then a limited wont have that.

i didnt see your location, that will also factor in how much a 4runner will cost in your area depending on mileage.

same front end as a tacoma basically

What do you guys think about the FJ cruiser?
I wanted to love that truck. I waited for one to show up at the local dealer. Went down there like a giddy school girl.

Then I sat in it.

Its a nice truck but the visibility I love with my old 4Runner is not there. You sit in a hole. everthing feels like it is at shoulder level. Don't get me worng....It is really nice but I was very disapointed that the from the seat veiw was so bad concidering it being hyped as such an off road monster.

That settled my desire for a FJ80 hopefully by spring as a DD for the wife and family EXPO truck.
