Graham, that shot was taken by our friend Diane. Don't know what lens she was using, but the elephant, a female, was only about 15 feet from the truck.

Excellent!!

Diane used a Canon EOS Digital Rebel with an f/5.6 zoom, set to 240 mm, fired at 1/100th second at f/16.

Ask the right person and you shall receive .

Good info! Photoshop is so nice. Now if only I shot digital. . . :smilies27

And that is one magnificent lion!

Yeah, he was a good spot, but I think we deserved it as he was the only lion we saw in Moremi in 10 days! And we saw him on the last day on the way out! Some better pics are:

Would you like to know the focal plane distance?
ISO?
Time?
Date?

I don't know you well enough to quote Jonathan's last post, so I'll politely decline instead! :D

cheers

Lions, elephants and turtles, Oh My!

No Serengeti around here, but I have run across less than amused animals out here on the open range -

The definition and clarity of all the parts don't match up very well.
For such detail on the cats the road, truck and background look very blurry.
In fact the clarity of the truck and the back ground look like different pictures.

It's cool though! They even have the truck leaning over a bit from impact!

My turn....
Kenya 2003...solo safari...another elephant shot.
And, yes, he really was that close...about 30 feet. A young bull trying to impress us. He did!

Sorry for the link.

Picture was taken a few months ago in Badlands NP, about a week before the annual roundup. Also came across alot of Pronghorn, Big Horn Sheep, lots of cattle and a few Coyote.
