Yeah, but I'm the driver, and Cindy was screaming for me to stop so she could take the photo. I guess I should have stated that the photo was taken by my wife...Sorry honey.

Otherwise we would have had dinner via the oil pan :costumed-smiley-007

Ok, to get off the Bird Thread, and I dont know if this even counts because I was trying to catpure the dirt it was kicking up before it hit the road, here is a coyote on the run heading for the road

Story behind the shot.

Cindy's driving the truck, I'm in the passenger seat with the 400mm on the 30D body. We're driving through Yellowstone in the pouring rain (Which is why the photo is so grainy, it's dark and raining pretty hard in the photo) and we see this coyote running towards the road.

I yell for Cindy to pull over as I jump out of the truck with the big lens in my hand. I dont have time to put in on the monopod so I crouch down leaning against the truck to stablize myself and start tracking the running coyote.

Just as I get everything in focus, I start firing off frames and this was the one I like the best.

Great shot! Especially the dirt kicking up!

This is a good thread that Mark started. I was wondering where he was and looked at his profile and saw that he is now banned?? I can think of a lot of other people that should be banned besides him. Especialy guys who illegally climb old growth redwoods and sequoias. That guy caused so much trouble and was never ever banned. Makes no sense whatsoever to me but what do I know.... maybe ScenicWonderRunner is some sort of serial murderer or something :sombrero:

Now that you mention it - surly the 'Banned' thing is a joke? Although I haven't seen any new post from him this week. Mark has some of the most interesting and fun threads on ExPo - seems like all of them go on for pages with nothing but good spirited posts. Always imaginative. I do worry about the '.' key on his keyboard wearing out, however... :) If Mark (SWR) did offend someone, only one of two things could be true - he went completely off the reservation or the offended party is a weak panty waste with banning powers. I can't imagine Mark saying something that offensive unless there was an axe to grind already.

BUT - in the spirit of this thread - I offer the high digital zoom on Mr. Fox. He seemed to be basking in the light of the rising sun:

Every Miles A Memeory - I always enjoy your posts too - I really appreciate the artistic touch all of your photos have. Sometimes I catch myself lost in some of the images, and that is never a bad thing!

Schattenjager, thanks for the compliments and that Fox is just hilarious! It does look like it's sunning itself and just enjoying the morning despite being in the middle of the road

Hopefully SWR's Banned title is just a joke. I agree, he had some great threads and always had good comments

This is another shot that my wife took (Seems she always gets the great action shots!)

We were driving through Yellowstone when a herd of Buffalo started moving across the road. One scraggler was still off in the field when it looked up and realized the rest of the herd had left it by itself.

The traffic had started moving as we watched this guy race towards the road.

Cindy yelled for me to stop as she opened her door, stood on the side step of the truck and snapped this shot.

Of all her photos, it probably is one of my favorites because it would be impossible to recapture again. Well the chances would be slim. So even though there is no road in this shot, this guy had us stopped:Wow1:

What settings did you use for this photo? I'm sure your equipment is much better then mine, but I'm haveing a really hard time getting good shots with my Nikon 300mm in anything other then perfect conditions with something to set the camera on (I think because of movement, though I'm a sharpshooter and can hold pretty steady for that...) so I'm really curious how you got it so clear with a 400mm.

Thanks!
Clark

Edit: I'm using a Nikon D200 with a 70-300mm VR.

lemme think of all the critters which have blocked my path. . .
red fox, wild/feral dogs, turkey, turtles/tortoises, snakes of all types, whitetail deer, feral hog, cattle/horses, raccoons/opossums/armadillos/average roadkill animals lol, alligators up to 11ft in length.

i have pictures of 90% of this stuff, i'm too lazy to upload them all right now. but if i see anything new i'll post it in this thread.

Two things, good equipment and I'm lucky

If you've never seen the Canon 400 f/2.8, its a monster and the lens you'll see on the sidelines of most sports arenas. There is a reason for that. The front element, or front glass is about the size of a bowling ball. It will take in a ton of light and allow you to get some amazing shots.

I bumped my ISO up on this shot to 400, and opened the aperature all the way to f/2.8. This allowed me to keep my shutter up at 1/4000th of a second which caught the dirt being kicked up

Just...wow. That is amazing.

Thanks Sexy Chick
