Gopher snake sighting. Looks like he's doing a good job in keeping the rodent population in check.

Every Miles A Memory

Your lizard does look more approachable, Pat, I do agree. How are things in Cedar Key these days?

Things are going great....knock on wood. We're crazy busy and the season just never seems to end, but I'm not complaining. Just saving every penny for future travels.

We were out on the water the other day and saw a Pink Bellied Dolphin, which was a treat!

Love that Stingray shot. What housing are you using? Did you get one for that 1DX??

Hi Pat, thanks for your interest, that stingray is one of the images I shot while snorkeling using a Canon G12 in a Canon Housing for the G12. I had low expectations of my G12 in its plastic housing, but it actually did quite nicely, even if I did not have bifocals in my diving mask, and really could have used them to help focus.. I think it was a lot easier to shoot with SCUBA, where one can sit on the bottom, and have more control over the camera to subject distance, than when snorkeling in a 3 foot chop, as I was in the Galapagos.

I was more willing to risk my old G12 in a new, untested housing, than my 1Dx, and the housing was much smaller and lighter than a housing for a DSLR. The housing for the G12 was also less than 1/5th the price for a DSLR housing. Canon WP-DC34 housing for the G12 is selling for $189 on Amazon. Used G12s should be available pretty reasonable as well. I might even sell my housing and G12 after next summer.

I used an Ikelite housing with a Canon F-1 in Grand Cayman back in the film days, but those housings are cumbersome, large and heavy, and modern air travel is not nearly as easy today as it was 25 years ago to schlep that kind of stuff around.

There are some very nice housings for the Panasonic GH-2 and GH-3, as well as some for the Olympus OM-D these days. The Olympus EPL-5 has a nice housing available as well

The OM-D is becoming quite popular for under water shooting, and I suspect the GH-3 will as well, now that good first rate housings are available for both of them.

I did see this little moray. We never saw the sun while I was snorkeling, it was always heavily overcast.
