I don't have any pics of the Wagon with me.... but it's in a lot better shape than the truck.

Cj2a

Here are some pics of a 47 CJ2A that I put back on the road a few winters ago. It was a lot worse than the truck.... so its kinda like my motivation.

I say do it! I would have picked the wagon, obviously you prefer the truck...either way, you'll have a vehicle we can all drool over. Please keep us up to date on this project!

I'm not 100% either way yet. My gut says wagon..... because the wagon could be used as a truck too...
No it will be 4wd.

Cons:
-It's old
-It will need heavy modification to function even kinda reliably
-It will need lots of hours to fix
-It will be expensive to upgrade even the most rudimentary saftey features (like power brakes)
-It will be loud and uncomfortable on the hwy
-Sheet metal work always takes longer than it you think it will
-You will have to spend more time researching mod's like power steering upgrades and axle swaps than you will actually wheeling.

Pro's:
It would be cool and no one else has one.

So there you have it. My vote is do it. I say the pro's totally outweigh the con's...That would be a cool expo rig.

that is the only American classic expo rig that could possibly sway me away from the Heep.

That, or a Travelall. Or a 3 door 'burban...
Dodge Power Wagon...

Cons:
-It's old (True)
-It will need heavy modification to function even kinda reliably. (So did my XJ and JK, but thats the game we chose to play)
-It will need lots of hours to fix. (Thats why I need something to do during the winter months.)
-It will be expensive to upgrade even the most rudimentary saftey features (like power brakes)(True, hydroboost, seat belts, wipers, heater)
-It will be loud and uncomfortable on the hwy. (It will keep my co-pilot wife awake.... but it is keeping with the heritage of the Jeep brand)
-Sheet metal work always takes longer than it you think it will. (Thants the truth!)
-You will have to spend more time researching mod's like power steering upgrades and axle swaps than you will actually wheeling. (I spend 10 hrs a day in front a computer "working", so thats works out great)

Need to find a Westy top or doormobile top for it and it would be a pretty unique set up. I guess the Wagon would be cooler.... I really don't plan on any "hard core" stuff, just looking to build a cool camping rig.

I am the same way. The build counts as part of the journey in my book. Adding a westy top would be cool and give it a little bit more cool factor.

My dd is a Scout and I am building my expo rig starting with a 74 IH 200, so I dig old iron. They take time to build rite, and as others have said you will spend sometime doing research but in the end theres nothing like old Iron! Do it and you will enjoy it more than anyting new. Imho no truck since 79 has any sole to it. Just plan what you want to do with it before you start. Make a plan and work out how you want it to look and run before you start, otherwise you will be forever " upgrading " and you just wont be out there doin what you realy want to be doin. Also, whatever you think it will cost to build, at least double that. How ever long you think it will take to build it , tripple it.
Good luck and post up lots of photos, (god I love old iron ) !

Wagon it is

Well the masses have spoken.... Wagon it is! I just needed a push in the right direction. I figure the Wagon would fit in the whole "expedition" thing better than the truck. Here are some pics of the Wagons I have all in different states of disrepair.
The green and white one (with the stinger) is the one thats getting dolled up.

Aww, man, I love old iron (my first vehicle was a '57 International Travleall, 3-door.)

FYI, the Willys Wagon was made under license in Brazil until the mid-70's, I believe.

You might want to go to this site:

For some cool pictures of modified Willys Wagons. They had a goofy, almost Edsel-like front end vs. the Jeep front end, but from the firewall back they are identical.
