SO I was looking at why I don't have heat (in socal so not vital) but I saw the dreaded bypass heatercore.

Whats the job like to remove anyone done theirs? DIY on it?

I've got to do mine soon, leaking after 210k. The dash needs to come out. All said and done it's a 5 hour job so don't cheap out on a heater core. Buy a new OEM unit they are $250

I agree, I had to change mine out too on my old 1997. It took about five hours total. Removed the center console, the dash and the passenger seat. I highly recommend lots of plastic baggies to put the hardware in and TAPE the baggies to the corresponding parts once removed to make reassembly easier.

i've got the same issue on mine, i haven't tried seeing if the heater core actually works, but if someone went through the trouble to bypass the heater core i'm sure its done for. what's a good place to get a quality core? I'm a little strapped on cash.

I found a good condition heater core at a local pick and pull. I paid $30.00 for it and installed it on my old 1997. I also just bought a brand new one for my 1989 raider on Rock Auto for $49.99.

The good thing about the junk yard was that it gave me a little practice tearing apart the dash.

I installed my heater core in my Raider about 3 weeks ago. It took me half the time in my Gen I vs my old Gen II.

Jay-
I almost had to do this job a while back, I have a Gen 2.5 and I swear the factory service manual called for the steering wheel to be removed or something? You were able to do it without doing anything to the steering wheel or column?

No I did not have to remove the steering wheel. You may want to be careful if you decide to remove it. I keep reading about the airbag deploying.
