Yeti 400 with other batteries

Hi, guys! I've been lurking on Expo for some time, gleening as much info as I can, and dreaming of fantastic voyages like many of you take on a regular basis! A new job opportunity has come my way and I will now pretty much be living an expedition for 5-6 months out of the year! While it is exciting, I am still a bit nervous to put what I have learned here into practice!!

I recently bought an Xventure XV-2 from an ExPo member to use as my base camp. It is equipped with the GZ Yeti 400 and I am trying to find a way to increase my AH capacity. It seems like I may only be able to daisy chain more GZ products to it but I was wondering if any of you guys have added other batteries to a GZ system and had any success with it, or utter failures. I really know very little about 12V systems so any info would be a HUGE help, as usual!

My total power demand is still in question but I am running an ARB fridge, some LED lights, and mostly charging batteries, devices, etc. I am getting a generator as a back up but I would like to eventually have a solar system capable of supporting my needs, whatever they are.

Thank you all in advance!

On the Yeti 400 there is a small "Anderson" connector on the side. You connect an additional battery here with just + and - wires. You need to add a battery that matches the capacity of the internal battery exactly because the charge controller will treat any external battery as if it was identical.

Goal Zero sells replacement batteries for the Yeti 400 for about $70. Probably easiest to just add one of those for a perfect match.

Lots of other info available at http://www.expeditionportal.com/for...-Zero-Yeti-400-Experiences?highlight=yeti+400

On a final note. Goal Zero has AWESOME customer service. Email them with your questions and they will get an engineer to answer if that is what is needed.
