is his head in the sand?

Lol... That old blog. Yeah, seems he only likes expensive vehicles... I was wondering why no Monty /Pajero..... Maybe because he never drove one, been to Australia or the Philippines /Latin America where they are more prevalent. Sent from my LG-H918 using Tapatalk

99 Montero will not stay in 2wd. Anyone else have this problem??

Have you changed the fluid in your diff? It can be a few things. The solenoid is going out or clogged. (vacuum switch /actuator in the engine bay that controls awd). You have debris or gunk in the shifter gear /lever by the boot. Or the lever is worn out/needs adjusting. Possibly a dirty...

    GEN 3 Flashing CDL Light

I've had this issue. I have seen it progress to different stages. First after driving a distance, then later it was affected by temperature, cold days vs 85+ degrees, or after the vehicle warmed up. Then it simply just blinked at start. It turned out that the free wheel solenoid was blown...

2003+ Idle Relearn Procedure for 3.8L Montero

I'd clean your throttle body, air intake, and it should help. It helped mine when that was happening to me. Also check battery power/alternator/fuses. Sent from my LG-H901 using Tapatalk

Gitout.com - Ultimate Expedition Build - 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Limited

This.... So much of this..... Thanks so much for your posts. I've been looking for rear bumper mods and lift, this is exactly what I was looking for my Monty. Is it custom fab work or did you order it? Could also use info on gas tank tuck/lift Sent from my LG-H901 using Tapatalk

    Montero 4x4 schooling needed

I'd say 98-99 gen 2.5, or gen 3 (03+). Gen 2.5 have a nice solid feel to them, good reliable and sturdy platform. Never let me down. Note :more aftermarket support for gen 2 and 2.5 than gen 3 in the states. I have owned both a 98 gen 2.5 and now a 2004 Gen 3. The 5 speed and 3.8l make a...

Experience with 235/85R16 on Gen 3?

I have Axiom 235x85 on mine, reprinted BFG KO design. I love the tires. I'm on the highway a lot and they have improved fuel economy and the grip is nice. And they are so much quieter than stock tires. I have noticed the steering is a bit different with these real skinny. Feels a little...

    Buying a Montero (3rd Gen)

I agree. I used craigslist and searched from the Oregon to San Diego, for weeks. Every now and then you get a special pop up. I live in LA and drove down to La Joya to get mine. Best places to find them, LA, Phoenix, Orange County, IE, San Diego, Ventura (occasionally), Bay Area has good...

SONICMASD's 97 Montero Build Thread: The General Li

I agree, I used Amsoil for all my fluids, trans, dif, axle. I noticed a difference from the spent fluids the previous owner had. Runs smother. Sent from my LG-H901 using Tapatalk

    Totaled gen 3 montero. :(

Glad you are OK. In cali, if they were responsible and it's totaled, then you should get the same value back, or kbb value. Let us know what happens, may be useful for parts. Sent from my LG-H901 using Tapatalk

2003 Montero Limited 3.8 started then doesn't start again...

If you needed a jump... And it doesn't start, try checking your fuses. I had that issue after replacing the valve covers, and doing work, but had a spark.... Later it would turn over but just die. Turns out it was my 120v fuse by the battery. May be electrical. Sent from my LG-H901 using...

No More Monteros - What to get next?

Surprised no one mentioned the new 4Runner..... If my Monty had given up the ghost, I was considering the new 2016 line.... They look pretty fresh like the Baja run.... Just about good for stock.... They are nice vehicles... I haven't driven it yet to see their own 4wd capabilities. 2016...

    Buying a Montero (3rd Gen)

I got a 04 Ltd for $2800. With 200k on the clock. $4k+ with 220k seems a bit steep, unless it's in immaculate condition. If they throw in the timing belt, spark plugs, water pump change, then it may be worth it. Valve cover replaceable isn't that hard. Takes some time if you are meticulous...

Loremordred's '04 Montero Limited Build Thread

Ok, I fixed the picture issues. Got maintenance done mostly. Had issues getting to the timing belt.... since I couldn't remove the accessory plate/back plate. Maybe someone has a idea how to do this without pulling the whole engine out... or the steering shaft... I've found a few...

Maintenance Snaggs??? Help? Need your thoughts....

So... After a lot of run around I found the issue. A blown 120A fuse that wouldn't power the fuel pump or something. After taking apart the plenum and valve covers twice, rewiring and following all the connections.... it was a simple fuse. Well, my skill level at disassembling a Monty has...

Maintenance Snaggs??? Help? Need your thoughts....

Thanks Salonika... I haven't seen any shrader valves but I will look. I think I found the culprit. When I first started it, there was a plum of smoke that came from the engine bay but couldn't find anywhere it came from directly. I suspect it was the oil that leaked through the spark plug...
