Make sure you buy one of these kits, DO NOT BUY THE REPLACEMENT O-RINGS FROM AN AUTO PARTS STORE! The kits from Ford or International come with a new plug and the O-Ring installed and it is an updated design.

Oil Rail End Plugs (large plugs at each end of heads; incl. O-rings, use LOCTITE #11747 to seal threads)
(Ford) Same number as International
(International) 1827535C94

When I bought my truck the front plug behind the alternator was leaking so I bought the o-ring package from the parts store, installed one with loctite, checked everything out and drove the truck. Not two months later, it was leaking real bad, like REALLY bad, of course this was halfway between Moab and Mexican Hat. I had the second o-ring from the package still in the truck and set about replacing it again. When I pulled the plug out the o-ring was brittle and the rubber was chipped. I figured I had botched it up the first time so I was extremely careful with this one. Topped the oil up and drove to Page for my Grand Canyon trip, my Dad drove the truck to Flagstaff and we hit the river.

Picked up the truck three weeks later, loaded the rafts on and checked into the hotel. Came out to go to dinner and there is a puddle under the truck, arrrggghhhhh. Made it to the parts store in Flagstaff just before they closed bought another set and some oil and proceeded to do this job a third time. When I pulled the plug out this time the o-ring was brittle and in pieces. Well I am not putting another one of those in there. Next morning Ford had one of the kits in stock fortunately.

It is a little more expensive, $12 compared to $4 but the design was totally different and the durometer of the rubber was very different. Two years now with the new 'good' part, no issues.

Cheers, Chris

sounds like you did the same thing i did and got the same results. i now know that i r&r the plug in less than two hours though. i am waiting for another two days when i am off work and its a little warmer two put the ford/intl ones in. funny it is even leaking in the same spot on mine. i think it is also what is causing the oil pressure to fluctuate.

looks like my five speed dual mass clutch is going out so i picked up this, for when it fails.

its a rtlo 13 spee with od. it will go behind the cummins.

also mounted the warn 8274 i got from bfdiesel, in trade for some axles, on the explorer. still have some fabbing to do on it. the mounts need a 2nd plate welded on so it is mounted in double shear and there will be a 2x2 piece of angle welded on the two winch mounts as well, that will tie into the stinger.

expo isn't liking the pics i took with the camera, will upload later.

it has been a really busy summer for us and i haven't had much time to do any camping working on trucks etc. we bought a new house and will be moving in next month, it will be nice to finally have a garage to work in!

wes and i got the axle swap between his sub and mine done, well his is done. i still have to swap his rear axle back in mine. i wasn't looking forward to manhandling it by myself so i built this contraption. thought i would share it with you guys. it worked killer and didn't even flinch at the semi floater rear. hoping that this will work just as well loading my cummins and 13 speed on the trailer when we move.

edit, pictures won't attach for some reason. will get this figured out and post later.

thanks Chris. it looks like, from my measurements, that i will be able to fit the f350 in the new garage with room to spare height wise. length wise it's a bit of a squeeze haha!

update on parts gathering

well it has been a busy month or so. got moved in for the most part to the new place. having a garage and a couple acres is awesome, now if i could just get all the boxes from moving out of the garage!

had to fly out of denver a couple weeks ago for grandma's funeral. cancer finally got her. she is in a better place now. on the way back from denver i picked up a dana 80 from a 2002 dodge dually in the explorer. it was a tight fit but we made it over the passes. turns out it has 3.54 gears and a limited slip. perfect! still has the factory paint on it as well.

waiting on my tires to come in from trailworthy fab. i ordered 6 grooved 37" goodyear wranglers with the pvc beadlocks. hoping they are here this weeks sometime. i found a truck tire shop that will sipe them for me for better winter traction.

mad4wd had a sale going on for bilstein 7100 resevoir shocks so i ordered 2 10" 255/70 for the front, and 2 12" 255/70 for the rear. hopefully that works.

ordered some 2.5" wheel spacers for the sterling rear so i can run the h1 wheels and tires until i get the dana 80 set up the way i want and installed.

once we get the garage cleaned out i am hoping to start welding the shackle reversal together, and get the new single mass clutch set up in. the dual mass is a bit wonky!
