The starting line for this event was a lonely miner's cabin, tucked away in the hills at almost 6000'.

Brave souls from all over came to meet the challenge, their trusty rigs having been carefully prepared for the rigors of the unyielding terrain.

Andrew's mighty Defender

Jim's built FJ

Rich's Rubicon

JR's Trusty Red Tacoma

Rich's (group leader) Tacoma

The challenge was to successfully navigate hazardous terrain to a series of checkpoints:

Ghost towns

tramways at 8700 feet

the enclaves of strange naked tribal clans

dangerous tunnels

cranky miners

and harrowing descents

Our first campsite, a cabin that is on few maps and for which no one has published the exact location. When you find it you'll become a member of the Adopt A Cabin Cult

Note the "tiny" little tent next to the red Tacoma. Has JR got it made, or what?

Heading out for the first day's challenge, Friday October 12th

dire warnings....

After a climb up the first canyon we stopped to check out the views of the area

Next was a nice hike to an old mine and its structures that were just up above the main road across the Inyo Mountain trail

Nice views of the Sierras!

pump house

Nice, solid rock

The proverbial light at the end of the tunnel?

We think that the pipe was for air....

The steep and loose uphills provided enough noise and dust to keep Lola the Wonder Dog fully entertained

Smooth roads and fine views

checking out the tram structure

Along the road we saw this structure that was a pump house at Mexican Springs for water piped to a mine

We had a hint of rain in the air so I set up my Black Diamond Megamid tent to cover my extra gear at my campsite.

After a great potluck dinner (chocolate cake, kielbasa sausage, honey roasted ham, taco salad, hot dogs and more) we turned in to rest up for Saturday's adventures.

Getting ready to move out!

on the road to the next rally point with trusty trailers in tow..

The Lost Burro Mine was the first checkpoint for Saturday's Sojourn

Off to the Races!

The goal was to find the longest or weirdest path at the famous racetrack and its "grandstand" rock formation

And the winners are....
