IPF H4 installation...

Its never too much light, correct...

Well with that thought in mind, I've figured that I give the IPF a try...

Here is what we got...

The start...

Update...

I believe the difference it obvious... :)

Hope this helps someone who is wondering about installation of IPF H4 Conversions... (keep in mind that this is not an HID conversion, just a HEAD unit swap to one where you can install different bulb, rather then replace the whole headlight unit)

P.S. as of February/2010, I've upgraded to HID kit (installation to follow later)

Superior Axle & Tube Seals

Have you heard about these - Superior Axle & Tube Seals ???

I have to agree that they help a bit, especially if you live in NW or similar, where you would get a lot of rain & water crossing situations...

Anyway, for those who are interested in more information, feel free to Google it, otherwise, I would have to say its a COMMON SENSE MOD... :)

Pictures as installation goes...

Seals (as they come in the mail)

The whole process is rather simple...
1. Remove the Wheel
2. Remove the brake caliper
3. Remove brake disk
4. Remove HUB
5. Pull out / Remove axle
(i believe that how I got here) :)

Have bunch of GREASE ready to go, everyone uses different ones, some marine type, others just similar to what I've got... per personal experience, cant say that it makes difference...

P1130034.JPG

Carefully place the seal into the TUBE.
(I greased mine around the end that you input into the tube, to make it a smoother process).
I used 2 pieces of 2x4 (wood), one layed flat on the seal, the other longer to hit the flat 2x4 in order to get it inside nice and snug... like this...

P1130035.JPG

Once in place & stuffed with GREASE, you can start putting it together...

Keep in mind, the TIP for using the Grease Gun, should face the right way out, in order to have easy access to it. Thats a matter of personal preference (I've got mine facing forward)

Thermostat, Plugs, Filters, Brake Line, etc...

Some of the stuff had to be replaced... radiator flushed...

A lot of people complained about the engine running on the "hot" side, so I went ahead and got a lower temp thermostat. I did get the temperature to stay lower (per gauge), but cant say that it is REALLY noticeable.
FYI: issue that came up - my CHECK ENGINE light goes ON/OFF at times, due to computer error code - ENGINE NOT WARMING UP FAST ENOUGH.

P1120978.JPG

Personally, think its a lot easier to work on radiator issues with everything off...
It is a simple "few bolts / nuts" process...

Brake lines did get to replace as well... They are extended (considering the 4" lift)

Not sure if anyone heard or already using these, I figured I would give them a try. When I read up on the description, it made sense to me totally. When I called to order the filters, I believe actual inventor/owner answered and gave me some feedback on this idea/concept. I advise you Google it for yourself before deciding to go with them. At this point, I have no regrets about installing the oil filter one... The other for transmission (black with 2 ends) havent been installed yet, havent had the need to replace tranny fluid, although soon is the TIME... :)

So the only difference between that Magnafilter, and an oversized regular filter, is that the Magnafilter is technically a second oil filter right? If so, it seems like that teeny tiny little filter would just clog up sooner and you'd have reduced flow. Or is it something that basically takes a regular sized filter and enlarges it? If that is the case, why not just buy a single oversized filter?

Oil MagnaFilter seem to do the job of filtering out the "smaller" stuff, that regular filters don't (and that goes for the over-sized filter as well). It needs to be replaced every 50k miles (per instructions). Your oil/filter still get replaced every 2-5k miles (depending on oil and personal interval preference).

It seems like its just an oversized magnet fitted into a filter type housing. I figured it just cant hurt to have it on, plus the price wasn't like "gigantic"...

One of the mechanics I know said it not a bad idea to have that...

So its a magnet more so than a filter? Thats kind of interesting. I can see that if you have tiny little microscopic particles of metal how that would keep it from recirculating, but at the same time it seems like one of those gimmicks that is guaranteed to give you 1000mpg or something.

meh, treat it like you would the K&N filter...it's personal opinion. I had a K&N in my other jeep and never noticed a difference so my adventure Jeep has the regular one since they say it filters dust better anyways.

Well, at this point all I can say is that "IT MAKES SENSE"... and it doesnt promise to do some "WONDER" that is hard to believe...

Oh yeah,,, I mentioned ... it dont cost that much... :)

So in reality, having a SNORKEL, does that give you more "clean & cool" air, rather then just regular "stock" system...

(i am not talking about water crossings now) :)

I think what most people call a "cold air intake" is really just a short ram intake (I think that is the right terminology). With these, you are taking out some of the bends and stuff that might restrict airflow. On the little rice burners and drift cars, the real cold air intakes are fairly long pipes that go way down into the front bumper or in the wheel well or somewhere where it is pulling cool air from outside the car rather than warm air from the engine compartment. So in a way, a snorkel could be considered a cold air intake since it is getting cooler air from outside the engine compartment.

I am slowly "gathering" info on how to make my own SNORKEL, since I've already acquired the HEAD unit from Safari Snorkel, need to make the elbow part now...
