More pictures

Here's a shot that was taken early on during the build. And if you don't have anything nice to say please move on. Perhaps to the Freelander section as was suggested by a well known and highly respected member of this community.

Can you post some pics that don't require facebook login?

I think its cool. Any idea what springs were used ? Had to be tough to find something that was flexi but heavy enough to keep the tires off the sheet metal.

When someone does something that outlandish, a mixed response can be expected! But yes, there's no need for people to be too obnoxious!

Me, I'd like to see it in action!

That said, I think it's quite legitimate to question the integrity of the roll cage. We all know how people love to copy things they see in the internet.
There's a lot to building a true roll cage, which is part of the reason in the 70's a lot of companies quit calling their product "roll bars" and started calling them "show bars".

Im not sure if the intent was to fish for compliments or a simple sighting, or what. I think the problem was that a pic was shown as a 'hey look at this', with essentially no follow up. I asked a reasonable question about the doors that has gone unanswered/ignored, but I dont have my panties in wad, because after all, this is the internet.

Jeff,

It was not our intent to fish for compliments as we had no plans to post that picture here. Our friends at Inland Rovers apparently thought enough of all the work and effort that went into it to share something they thought unique and we appreciate it and them for it.

In any case, to answer your question the doors are original. Except for the obvious (drivetrain, powerplant & chassis, interior) if needed, anything we could was salvaged and repaired & reused.

No worries. Im glad it was posted as you never know where ideas or inspiration will come from.

Do you have any pics showing the inside of the middle doors and maybe of the door tops?

Thats not that bad. Its like putting 44s on a Explorer. Whats the big deal? Iv'e seen bigger things driving down I-5 at 60mph and michelin 53s XZLs. I wish I had a pic of the samurai that had 44s on it. The tires almost touched together in the middle. It looked like a stomper toy.

I like unique. I would need a ladder to get in it, but I wouldn't mind taking it out for a hot lap to the nastiest trail I could find. Very nice work
Thanks for sharing. Don't worry about the stuffy comments.

I'll check. If not we'll take and post a few before, during and after (which we're not at yet since technically it's still under construction) shots beginning with the donor.

Thanks for the input. As a proud owner of several Land Rovers which include a 1967 IIa 88, a 1972 101 FC and an expedition prepped and used 95 Range Rover LWB, I assure you it was far from a great vehicle.

It would have cost at least two to three times as much to do a decent basic frame-off restoration which it would have required. It cost us a fraction of that using mostly scrap metal to form a chassis, suspension and roll cage/exo-cage, then shoehorning a Deuce & 1/2 Continental multi-fuel powerplant, drive-train and Rockwell axles into it.

True it's not for everyone though it was built to our liking by us and we trust it will than satisfy the kid in us. We're also not Land Rover designers or structural or metalurgical engineers.

Knowing the limitations of the vehicle (which is loosely based on a rock racer suspension) we built the exo-cage in anticipation of what could happen. And should it ever tip over we'll likely need a helicopter to get it upright.

Regardless of what anyone here thinks keep in mind that we're Land Rover aficionados and off roaders too, and thoroughly enjoy the capability of our vehicles just as much as the places they take us to as much as most of you.

And if in doubt you can see pictures of some of our vehicles at the last Rover Rendezvous held a few weeks ago in July.

I'm sure some form of technical expertise is needed here. It is clean. It looks like it is well done. And for those reasons you usually have to at least respect what others do... but it is still a waste of what was a great vehicle.

Just plain fun! I wish I had the time. My S2 109 is sitting in storage with a rebuilt 302 a T18/LT230 35 spline Salisbury and a D60 up front, SOA on 39's.

Just for fun...

But only for the sheer joy of taking my female daughters to school in that vehicle....I love it!!! Regardless of what anyone says, it is cool.

All my life I have loved attention getters on wheels. This vehicle is very much that!! The closest I ever owned to an attention getter of this class was my 1959 Cadillac Convertible, Pepto Bismol Pink, White ragtop, Black and white check leather interior. Man, was that an attention grabber. Kids loved it and so did adults. Just like this vehicle.

Thanks for sharing and good luck with it. Keep the pictures coming.

How could that truck be anything but fun to drive? Looks like a hoot. I'd drive it every day since I only cover 7 miles to work.

My kids love cool trucks, and they ride around in our 110 on Mattracks, so it takes a lot to impress them these days, but they looked over my shoulder when I was looking at this thread and they all said "Holy Cow! That truck is AWESOME!!"

It wouldn't easily fit on the narrow, heavily treed trails we drive here in the mountains, but still, way cooler than a mini-van for the school run.
