I must be missing something....How is that pivot going to flex up and down? I can visualize side to side for steering, but what about up and down?

As far as the hydraulic motors, I would use them in place of all that gearing you are messing with. One for each track, a bunch of hose, done!

There`s no up and down on that pivot. Front and rear car are not articulated in the horizontal plane. Instead of this, the axles will be able to articulate up and down.

Hydraulic drive is no option, it loses in almost everything compared to a mechanical drivetrain. I don`t see where i`m messing with gearing, it`s a pretty simple drivetrain...

Really cool project. You've really built up a decent machine shop for yourself. I'm impressed with the way you have gone about building this thing. Can't wait to see it done.

Wow:Wow1:Mr Double Chuck, what a lot of progress on that rig. I am just wondering how the driveshaft will go through the pivot as there seems to be a vertical piece of metal in the way. Maybe it will be removed later or there is something that I am not seeing. Fine work and progress. Like everyone else I am anxious to see this baby test driven.:)

That tubing in the pivot is just for mock up purposes. It`ll be replaced with two bolts when i`m building the driveshaft.

Finished mounting the pitch ram:

And fixed it:

Spent another day working on the shifter linkage. Redid every part at least tree times until i had it working properly.

Started cutting the steel for the bogie axle bushings:

While the saw was cutting i serviced my new to me vise:

Then my neightboor came over and gave me the package with the Blazer double ujoint driveshaft, that i wanted to use:

I ground away the stops but it doesn`t have enought freedom:

17612229ez.jpg

Was worth a try, now i need to find something better. Unfortunately there are no driveshaft companies in germany like you find in the USA...

Bought a wheel bearing to see if it fits:

Looks good, ordered four of them and four wheels.

Then i started building the first bushing fot the bogie axles:

Thought this was to wimpy:

So i put some threads in the saw and used my stuff from the mill to make it solid:

Put some threads in the bushing:

And started turning it:

Is that a 1310 double cardan from the blazer? Do you need that big of a joint for the little subaru motor and that vehicle weight (I'm thinking <1500lbs)?

Finished the outer bushing housing prototype today:

Cut the plastic for the bushing:

And turned it:

Pretty cool to work with, but creates a hell of a mess:

Together:

Cut in half:

This is how it`s going to sit:

Finished, just 7 to go:

Started with a inner bushing:

17643605ec.jpg

17643601dw.jpg

17643599gc.jpg

Then i put it in the four jaw and started tightning it. Suddenly something snapped while tightening the last jaw. First i thought i snapped the chuck key but then i realized it was my thumb. Now i`m back from the hospital, but they`re not really sure what exactly let go...

Sorry to hear that you are injured Steinez. Lets hope you get well soon. I am hoping that it is not anything serious. I was just going to say that the progress on your rig was coming along nicely. Too bad you got injured and now have to relax for a while. Here to seeing you get healthy quickly and you can resume your previous activities. Cheers, Chilli....:)
