I have a 1st Gen (without mesh pockets) thats been great and still going strong and I use it in the same fashion as most everyone else, but I have on a number of occasions wished it had the external pockets. An HD version is very appealing and I'd definitely consider one, especially as my current model continues to age, but I think I'd prefer one with external pockets.

I think external pockets are VERY useful but with the mesh I dont want to use them as I'm advertising the contents. That would be one change I would recommend to the existing design. Would be great for recovery gear for example.

Another idea is that a larger Trasharoo like the one pictured above in the OP might be a good way to transport pioneer tools as well if you had long "sleeves" on the interior toward the tire that a shovel handle or axe handle could slip into, secure the head with a strap and fill the large exterior bag portion with firewood or other camp supplies and off you go.

We like the mesh pockets. The perfect place for wet swimsuits or dish washing cloths.

I would like one that has alternate mounting methods; I think we could all use a way to carry trash on the outside of the vehicle but don't have the spare tire to hang the surrent design.

x2 here, no spare tire so its always a little tricky figuring out how to mount it, have it stay put, and where to stuff all the extra strap material.

I've never had a need for a HD version. My regular version has worked great. I almost exclusively use it for trash and at times muddy recovery gear. I've never used the external pockets much. I do LOVE the idea of a bag made in the USA and I would pay a premium for that.

This is pretty much where I am. We bought one of the first versions very early on, and other than a coating of dust I see no signs of wear and tear. So, I'm not sure I'd pay much of a premium for a heavy duty version since the first one meets my needs and expectations so well. I do use the pocket in the flap to carry trash bags, so I find that feature valuable.

Now, if the new version came with built in muscle as illustrated below that might be a feature worth having when venturing into some of the more wild zones of SoCal. ;)

I could buy 4 good current model '"roos" or 1 great "new and improve"?
In today's economy the math is simple to me..
Sometimes, just like in movies, the sequel is not as good as the original...
Just my .02 cents

I am installing my CBI rear bumper and swing away tire carrier next month and looking forward to purchasing a Trasharoo. Spending $200.00 on an HD model not yet or in the forseeable future.

havnt had time to read all the replys, but thought I'd give my input after owning a TR for a few years. The price was a deciding factor for me when I purchased. I knew I would like the bag, but did i need it? No... So that puts significantly more expensive bags out of the question for a first time buyer I would think. My TRs strength has never been put to the extreme though I intend to fill it with fire wood on a Mojave road run coming up with some extra tie straps in case my TR straps decide to give up. The only thing I would like to see in a V3 is improved color fade resistance and straps that will not deteriorate with sun exposure. I cant however think of any material that wont be eventually sun damaged living in cali. I should also add that my TR is not ever removed from the truck like I would imagine most users do.

  • improve resistance to sun damage.
  • first time buyer may not bite at higher price.

It is difficult to please everyone but something that I would like to see are two compartments. Think a symmetrical divider down the middle. One side could be used for trash and one could be used for recovery gear/etc.

I'm also liking Howling Moon's offering, with the PVC coating. Seems like I can sanitize it easier and it wont stink as bad as the cloth... and it wont absorb water like the cloth.

We value every one of your comments and take your feedback seriously. Expo is where we got our start and you guys are who we want to hear from. The Trasharoo has evolved further along for more than just trash. More and more people are using it to haul their gear and their supplies. More and more people are demanding more out of their accessories.

How would guys feel about a a new and improved "HD TRASHAROO"? Full mil-spec made out of Hypalon (same as Navy seal boats) material that will be stronger and last forever. Now, what if i told you it had new upgrades like compression straps with inner flap, stainless drain holes, Ykk Zipper, mil-spec webbing/buckles and a grab handle? On top of all this, what if it was all made right here in the USA?

Here's a sneak preview..

If that doesn't show you strength, i don't know what will. That's me, at 250 swingin' lbs. Overkill for a trash bag? Maybe, will it rip? No.

Right now, we have two prototypes were testing and beating the snot out of. One is with the US Smokejumpers on their truck and was partially developed just for them and their specs. They wanted it weather/dust proof (yes some dust can get in from the drain holes). They also wanted no frills and no nonsense, so the mesh pockets were eliminated. From that, you get what you're looking at today.

This new bag may be available as addition to our current bags in 2012. They would be limited run as well, made in small batches and they wouldn't be cheap. We're talking $200 a bag. But they also would no longer be generic quality any longer as well. We're kicking it up a notch. Just as the bags and cases we buy all day long because we want the best.

So we want to hear from you... You tell us, should we make them?

From the picture it looks like its a trash compactor too. Might be interested in buying a new and improved version.
