2 things I wanted in the new go-pro

1) Better low light camera which they say they did improve. We will see how that turns out
2) GPS which they failed at. Not even a 'back-pack' option.

My opinion...not sure if they really raised the bar nor not. As a hero-2 owner, I'm not excited to drop everything and go get a hero3 in fact it really doesn't appeal to me at all. If I didn't have a camera, I would go for the 3 over the 2. The option for 64g memory would be nice! They (GoPro) say the new camera is more 'professional' ...and I realize the industry is moving forward fast but I thought the Hero2 was/is a very professional camera.

My bottom line, I love the GoPro camera system. It has taken video and photography to another level. Its cheap, some say disposable, and small. This new camera is great for someone coming into the Go Pro world of photography/video but I dont think many will jump ship from the Hero2 to the new 3.

For what its worth, lets look at them:

I gave my Hero HD 1 to youngest when I got the 2 earlier in the year.
My oldest son bought the 1 a week before they announced the 2 was coming out, so I am going to buy the 3 for his birthday which is coming up soon.

I will stick with my 2 for awhile longer...

yawn.. how many surfing and extreme skiing videos do we need to see? they need to put out some videos showing normal ppl using these cameras and their applications in less than extreme scenarios.

you forgot about wind surfing and bmx jumping

If I had a hero1, I would spring for a hero3

Valiantly trying to win one of these (no way my thin affords one at the present time) in order to do exactly that. Though some do quite nice videos of their backroads treks, as in this example, I'd like to have my own where I can be the director of photography.

With regards to the operating system, is this just to run their supplied software? Im wondering how important it is as I am lagging behind on XP!

Any ideas? I have the option of a 2nd hand H2 which I will probably get, but I could get a H3 sent over from the states for a little more $$$.

Cheers,

G

GoPros work perfectly with XP, as that is what I have been running for years.
Next machine will have Windows 8, we use Windows 7 at work.
I think they just forgot to add XP in their text.

& I just got my new Hero2 only a few months ago

this makes me sick :(
Yep, got my #2 awhile back too from Amazon.

For myself, I see no need yet to upgrade, as I would not use the Wi-Fi feature, and my #2 takes very nice pics and videos.
Maybe I will wait for the HD4 which should follow shortly :D

Silly question...

Does the wifi feature/remote/live streaming require a wireless router to work or is it stand alone?

standalone. Basically, all you need is an Android or Iphone/Ipad and it should wifi to you. That being said, they have only released the Iphone/Ipad version of the software. As of now, the Android-based version STILL has not been released, despite months of empty promises.
