ps My local Pep Boys had the cheap Spector water cans, they fit in the NATO fuel holders we have, nice for a quick week-end trip without towing the weight on the big tank.

the fly with the conquest is quite heavy duty and might be dif than the others ?
but it just sits on top of the tent so you need to have your tent up first
I wish there was a way to put it up first ! so if its raining you can set the fly up then put up your tent in the dry
I am working on a few thoughts since we had 3 days in the rain last year and it sucked !!!! to have a wet tent and have to put it away wet one thing I can say to get the large fly up is not super easy ! not hard just a pain really
the best way is to have a few people and then take two poles so its high enough and walk it back over the tent with a 3rd person pulling in the middle by yourself is a pain for sure
I dont use the big fly that much ? I might if I go and stay for a longer time
the pole thing you see is to keep the rain fly corner that is on the main tent up and cover the side windows from the rain and such
not sure how many had these though ? as some never had these extra poles ? but there is a grommet hole they go into on the rain fly that is attached and then it goes into a small hole that is drilled into the metal part or area where all the poles join up that you can see where it goes into kinda

when the side doors are open there is that fender ledge just in front of the wolf packs
a jerry can can also fits there on its side quite nicely
I keep a black one I set out in the sun for washing hands and stuff and another one on the other side for drinking water

The Compact's tarp is very different; it's a much lighter nylon material and easily deployed. The edges of it are "boxed" and drape over the poles somewhat; the vertical portion has a velcro edge with mated surface that can be sewn to additional panels (solid or screened) and the entire perimeter can be enclosed.
We've had the tarp deployed during heavy rain and left it up during tent packing. It kept the tent dry that way. When we got home we just opened the tarp in the garage and suspended it from the ceiling with bungee cords; we ran a fan for a few hours and it dried fine.
I don't see any reason why you couldn't stake-out the Compact's tarp and then open the tent under it; you might have to jockey the trailer around to fit it properly but, you get the hang of alligning it after a few deployments. It has "ribs" that correspond to the shape of the tent. Keeping your tent dry is a good thing.
Compact in Florida winter rain:
Compact (tarp deployed), Basecamp, & Conquest in TN fall rain ---- they chose not to deploy their heavy canvas tarps and I'm sure that Dendy and Chris needed to dry the tents at home:

Wow, thanks guys, gives me a good idea of what to do with my trailer. I've been trying to figure out a way to do something like this, and I thought it would be much more complicated.
I take it those tarps don't work out so well if there's a good wind?

The worst I've seen is about 30-35 mph gusts and the tarp billowed but didn't collapse. I'd imagine that you're as good as the footing of your stakes; lose one and there'd be a cascade effect...
Rain, on the other hand, caused one side to collapse when the tarp filled with water and the pegs uprooted. The deployed area was too narrow though and the tarp wasn't taught --- that allowed the water to collect.

I've been dreaming up some crazy system with fold-out arms similar to... well somebody has an awning system with these truss looking arms that swing out. I built my superstructure using 2x2 tube, and I left the vertical members at the 4 corners open on top. I was thinking I'd have this crazy system with swing out awning arms at all 4 corners, the arms would be on vertical poles that could telescope out of the corner tubes as the tent went up...
It's all a bit pie in the sky at this time. I'm thinking a large tarp draped over the Maggiolina, some standard poles and guy wires, and call it good. I'd only set up the tarp if it was going to rain a lot.

the heavy canvas one I have is boxed edge and velcro might try to go to a canvas guy and get some walls made up in the future with screen and solid doors I can also drop down
as far as specs they are 8 sided and maybe 20 feet ? not sure would have to measure it next time I take it out ?
tuscon dude and his kimber has the ultimate canvas that thing is a dream if you are looking for ideas they are like a house !!!!!!!!
I do want to come up with a way to have a top tarp over everything that is easier and just a blue tarp big size might try some adjustable poles with a extra base so they are really tall then a small piece of nylon line(rope) inbetween and do a parawing kinda thing
also being able to drop one side all the way down to the ground
