Anyone know if I could retrofit this ARB bumper onto my truck??

Thats for a Jeep Grand Cherokee 1993-1998

Mr. Leary, your fabricator buddies... reckon they could fab up a bumper similar to this one?

Good idea. I do have some insulating exhaust wrap that I was going to use on my bikes. I wonder if that'll work?

Sure. I may try to hunt down some different stock rims for myself, depending on whether the tundra brakes fit with my rims or not.

If you are looking for new tires and want to save some money consider these guys, http://www.treadwright.com/shopnow/...e/category/categoryid/35/sename/Specials.aspx

I have been using them on my Defender in all conditions for about 4 years with zero issues. They are easy to deal with and will ship right to your door.

I know the Texas heat and re-treads on big rigs are a bad mix down here. I have my doubts, but hopefully these will be appeased when I read some more reviews. Thanks for sharing the info, kellymoe. It would be really nice to get away with tires for that cheap with a warranty.

I have been reading all kinds of reviews about the tread wrights, only negative "reviews" are people who havent used them and only refer to big rig re-treads. The Tread Wrights are a whole other animal. I may get a set of their Goodyear MT look alikes.

Since you are looking for an ARB bumper, what about the rear bumper, sliders and skidplates?

Ok, so yeah, I'm looking for front protection for sure. I may make my own rear bumper. I'm undecided about if I need/want a tire carrier, If I do decided to go w/a tire carrier may have a bumper fabbed up. I've got a receiver hitch on the truck now and want to keep it for use to be able to tow the motorbikes.

Yah musta missed the slider discussion. :)

Skid plates? Trucks got a front skid already! But, I may go with a bud built, but I REALLY like the look of this one, but I think its only for lifted trucks...

I'm not building the truck for rock crawling, I'm building it for over land travel. The trails we went on recently were merely to test the trucks abilities. It passed with supring flying colors, even in stock form. A couple mods like sliders and a rear locker will make the truck that much more protected and capable.

I hear your concern but I have been using them on highway in Death Valley heat of 120 degrees, aired down to 15psi on hot lava rock and aired back up again on several summer trips with no issues. I did lots of research prior to buying these for the same concerns you have and I could not find a single case of failure from this company. There have also been a few long term tests by 4Wheel and Off Road Magazine and a few other periodicals.

I always tell anyone who I recommend this company to to do a ton of research and come to their own conclusion. Several friends have switched over and all have been pleased.

Yeah. I'd use them in a heart beat. I may still. They use tire carcasses from BFG and Bridgestone, two of the best companies out there IMO. The re-tread process is very similar to the original treading process isnt it? The only difference being that the rubber used doesnt go all the way to the bead?

Roof rack idea.

IMG_1258-1.jpg

I'm going to start working on my roof rack tomorrow. I'm thinking two different sections.
RED:One on the metal section of roof that attaches to the gutter rails. Going to make my own mounts there.

BLUE: Then on the fiberglass section, another rack that hard attaches to the fiberglass roof.

Why? Well, I DO intend to take the roof off during the summer. I want to be able to use some sort of roof rack, plus if you notice I've got some lights shown in there. I'll have 4 lights, that are removable also removable, actually, The light bar is one that I've already made and used on my Xterra.

If you do use that stuff be sure to seal it afterwards. It will hold oil if it isn't sealed. Friend of mine nearly burnt a car to the ground because of this. There is an aerosol sealant made for the job.

Good to know... if only they made 255/85/r16s. I still may spring for the 285/75/r16 for the price.

Well a semi weighs 80,000lbs on a good day.... of course they are going to thrash re treads...lol (but usually they have to be under inflated first)

"Exhaust pipe flange/ring" Fel-Pro Part No. 23588

Got it at NAPA this morning, should have it back on and hopefully leak free in a few.:smiley_drive:

I've been having internet problems this morning. I've got the exhaust manifold and flange leaks fixed, but doing that caused another leak at the flange after the catalytic converter. Going to the parts store now :).

The thing is so quiet now! I love it! You can actually hear the motor revving from the fan noise instead of the VW tweet that I was getting before.

Thankfully these gaskets are cheap. My previa uses the same and they were bad and got me an extra $100 or so off the asking price. :D

It is coming right along!! Now you have me feeling like I have been neglecting mine. :(

Well, i'm sort of pissed... now that I've got the exhaust leaks fixed, I can here a bit of knocking/tapping from the motor.

Also, while working on the cat flange, I noticed that one of the lift blocks under the springs is crunched up. Which is a relief because whenever I've gone from forward to reverse and vice-versa I feel a shift and clunk, which I thought and was worried might be an issue with the rear axle/diffs.... Thankfully its only the block....
