its a shame....

hey guys i've been lurking this site for a while now and i figured i would share a store.
Well i was taking a trip out to Montauk Long Island with the girlfriend today and as i am driving i see a old what looks to be a series III so i pulled over and made her give me her camera! It was at a old classic car mechanic but without a doubt has been sitting there. it looked to be totally complete besides the seats. and it was in OK condition the floor panels were gone/rusted off and the bulkhead footwell's we pretty rusted but the rest of the bulkhead looked good! the rear crossmember was OK as well would definitely need replacing and the frame was OK as well. but after briefly checking it out i went into the house/office and i went up to a lady at the front desk and ask if the old series land rover was forsale? and before she could get out a word i hear a older man in the next room yell "NO!!" so i walked into the next room asking again and he replied with a no again and he asked me what i needed it for and i replied with im just looking for one too restore. All he said was im not selling it.... it made me mad knowing that this truck is going to sit here for years until he decides what to do with it...and it was sitting there for years before i came across it:mad:
i figured i would just share that with you guys i hate seeing land rovers that just sit there rotting away.
here is some pictures!

I have a feeling that a lot of us would loose our minds and wallets in a salvage yard in the UK.

That sedan that says Rover is a Land Rover.
The company made passenger sedans for a while.

The Mercedes is the grey on in the background.

If it has the title, then maybe $500, if no title, offer to remove it, but for what besides to feed the addiction I do not know...

The car with ROVER on the boot lid is a P4-not sure of the year but late 60's. It was made by Rover Cars Ltd. which was also the company that made Land Rover.

The SIII would be a total tear down, full restoration. Most of it is there but if it can be salvaged is in question. You would be better off buying one that needs repair, mild restoration. Being on the coast and obviously having sat in that yard for some time I'm guessing the more you took off the more you would have to throw away.

the rover along side is a P6 also has the buick/rover 3500 v8 engine and a fore runner of the LT77 gearbox running SU carbs
it was used by the police in the uk as a cheap fast crusier, as been said both the series and the P6 share a common parts bin from rover.

BTW $200 wont get you scrap in the UK, many old landrovers are being weighed in for scrap its currently £120 per vehicle slightly more if you drive it in

I know 2 farmers that have cleared their scrap piles of old cars/landrovers/fourtracks & machinery as money is tight and the scrap value is high

regards all
