I don't care for the second gen Taco so much, mostly the interior. I have been driving my first gen so long that I plan to skip the whole second gen and wish for a all new better rig in 2014. A diesel would be great but dont think it will happen. If it does I will be of the few that get the real value out of it (currently @ 271,000 miles on my first gen). A few things I would like to see is make all the safety equipment optional ie: ABS, air bags, ATRAC, down hill assist, etc. This stuff is unnecesary if you pay attention to the task at hand.. DRIVING. It should not be a far reach for Toyota to engineer a Tacoma that is capable of 25 MPG that is gas fueled, the current D4D gets 28. This future Tacoma should have a payload of 1500 lbs as well. The rear axle should be full floater with disk brakes. When going to school I worked at a machine shop that built professional racecar parts and the low end 9" Fords could handle 800 HP, so this is not a reach at all for a massive car manufacture. Cost will be high for this rig, maybe 32,000 but in return a high milage durable rig will be a good trade off. Most will not be willing to pay a high price for a mid size rig because they trade them off every 4 years or less. Sad because a vehicle is the second biggest purchase most people will make in their life, of course look at the current state of the largest purchase of their life (a home).
