Birds Of Prey

Nice pics guys. The wife and I volunteer at Wild Bird Rescue here in Wichita Falls every baby bird season (April thru July), and each year we get the Mississippi Kites, over 100 this year due to the drought. No rain, which means no bugs (dragon flies are main food source), which means babies are starving and weak so they fall out of the nests and we rescue them. Of course we also get lots of barn owls, horned owles and barred owls, along with screech owls. One year we got this poor Great Horned owl that was covered, literally dripping wet with molasses. The farmer that brought him in said mice were feeding on the tub of molasses when the owl spotted it, tried to grab the mouse, and flipped right in. Took us two days of washing the poor thing in Dawn liquid soap before we got it all out and the owl got his oils back into its feather before we could release it.

They are my favorite. Sorry no pcitures but if you visit their website yo can see some:

I just got a canon rebel 2 this last Christmas and haven't had it out to take pictures of the owls in this area.....YET! I'm a Master Naturalist and I do owl callings for special events a the local state park each year and sometime I call in a few nice owls.

No they don't have phones to call them on!

Once you hit that door, its non-stop feeding. The yonger they are the shorter time between feedings. We call them bugged eyed bald headed vomit eating babies.....at least until they start getting their downy feathers. I won't go into the details of what and how we prepare some of the food we feed them.

I'll start getting pictures next season, and try to post them on here. We have a lady who's hobby if photography and she takes alot of our pictures. I prefer wild pictures, not captured pictures, though capture pictures does allow you to get up close for details.

I'm still learning how to use all the features in my camera...yup I'm a rookie, but I have taken some nice pic with my Olympus 770SW.

Saturday was our daughter's first birthday, so Grandma decided to make it something special. She brought over a pair of rescued/rehabilitated Kestrels to release at the party. So cool!

The pair circled overhead for the rest of the afternoon getting used to their new digs.

Osprey Payback

This osprey got somewhat upset that one of my dogs was causing a fuss below him. The ultimate payback.
