Montero owners near Virginia up for a trail run?

Just wondering if there are any Montero owners in Virginia or the surrounding areas that may want to hit a trail or two up in the next couple of months. You guys on the west coast are more than welcome to trek on over here as well if you think you can handle real mud. lol... J/K Really, I am...

A funny thing happened on the way to the Suburban store... Gen 3 Montero Limted

I did pretty much every trail at Uwharrie in completely stock form with 31 inch BFG all terrains. I didn't do the rock garden though for obvious reasons, but man were those lifted and locked jeep guys surprised.

main power fuse in 94 montero SR??

Check the battery. Preferably with a load tester and with a voltage meter. There are in-line fuseable links you may want to check out as well. Anything that comes directly off of the battery.

A funny thing happened on the way to the Suburban store... Gen 3 Montero Limted

Well the radiator fluid will be antifreeze/ coolant. Whatever brand or type you put in there just make sure it is in the entire cooling system. A wealth of montero knowledge can be found here--- http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/showthreaded.php?Cat=0&Number=1152900&an=0&page=0#Post1152900 ---...

Squealing belt since going off roading

A lot of times, shortly after a new belt install you have to re-tighten them. Typically 2-6 weeks. There are other factors that play into this as well. Could be belt quality, dust, moisture, temperature, etc. If a couple turns of a wrench to tighten them up doesn't work, get a gator-back belt...

Wide versus narrow tire for off road use. What says you?

A 12.5 in tire on a 7 inch rim? When I had 11.5 width on my 7 inch wide rim the lateral stability went away and came back with a narrower tire. If only by an inch. You have 3 to 5 inches of play in there. Pending that you don't run the tires at a very (and probably higher than spec) high psi...

    Critical Spares 2nd Gen Montero

How were ball joints your fault? I would take a new fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, spark plugs and wires. 2 ignition coils, MAF only because it is light and if you can get one uber cheap, ignition module, belts, ball joint upper/ lower, wheel bearings (both for one side), grease for them...

Please sign this petiton to open things up for newer Mog imports !

Petition ended in December so it doesn't matter now. Of course enough people didn't sign because they looked but did nothing. I put it on a few forums where people did the exact same thing. Funny that people talk about wanting to get all of these cool toys over in the states but when it comes to...

Wide versus narrow tire for off road use. What says you?

Coming from a 32x 11.5 I can tell you it is a world of difference for the better IMHO. Although the latter did work well for what I threw at it.

Need vehicle suggestions for around $3000

Some people are afraid of what they don't know. Which is why they drive jeeps, fords, and the like. If they only knew that rigs like ours are made overseas for places that do not have road systems like ours and need a very reliable/ capable machine. What killed the Montero here was the fact that...

Wide versus narrow tire for off road use. What says you?

Did you read the section on off road contact pressure and its effects on adhesion? More and more rock crawlers are actually using narrower tires. I found this write up as well. To the point I must say "Less rotating mass- Easier to start and stop Less reciprocating mass- Easier to dampen Less...

plugged cat converter on montero...anyone else?

My cat is fine and I still have the fuel mileage not being good and lacking speed..It is a Montero right?...As for the wheezing sound-well, it is January... Okay, really I'd do a proper diagnoses first. It is possible that The catalytic converter is melted and has blocked your...

Wide versus narrow tire for off road use. What says you?

After purchasing my new tires, I got to thinking about an article that I read a few months ago that started me thinking about getting these skinnys. It made perfect sense. Here is a link: http://www.expeditionswest.com/research/white_papers/tire_selection_rev1.html What do you guys think...
