I've got an A3 and an A2 with the same axle. 3/4 ton chevy wheel pattern, I believe. Maybe take a lug nut to the auto parts and match up with a stud. I bet a 3/4 ton chevy nut would fit.
On my 95, the cam sensor would get hot and fail, then cool down and start again. This took awhile, overnight at the dealers. It didn't throw a code until the third failure.
John,
There are several ways you can adapt a new plug. You can take the cover off the conection box, located on the tongue and wire in a new pig tale. All the wires have a number on them and I can help with that, if you go that route. You have to change out the 24 volt bulbs to 12 volt, also...
I've been lucky and got mine to turn by soaking the lunette with PB Blaster for a few days, then useing a long ( 4 to 6 foot ) bar through the eye and pull down. Sometimes just smacking it with a BFH, gives it a shock and it will turn
Good Luck and sounds like a good project.
Just an idea, when I'm looking for seals and bearings, that I can't source, I go to a bearing shop in town and they can match up everything. Probably have to go to a bigger town, though. Bring in the old stuff, so they can measure them.
Good Luck
John,
You won't have a problem stopping without brakes, if you use your Silverado to tow with. As you know brakes are good, though. The model you have is the older type and uses the split ring wheels, which are hard to find spares, etc. To solve the brake problem, you might have to buy a #3500...
Well, if that's your's in the picture, then it has no surge brakes, just parking brakes. The wheels are the 5 stud wheels, with a split ring. You might be better off, just getting a new #3500 axle with electric brakes. That way you can get the wheel stud pattern of your truck. It's a good...
Pretty much what I'm doing, but I'm useing a toyota 5 speed instead of an auto. Check it out, over on MUD. http://forum.ih8mud.com/fj55-iron-pig-preservation-society/569815-slow-71-a.html
Alot of good information on IH8MUD.COM
Do some reading on Steel Soldiers, in the trailer forum. The Government mixed and matched components on the M101. I have two M101 A2's with A3 axles under them. The A3 axle is wider and the tires stick out past the fenders. A3's have a crank up landing leg, which is nice when the trailer is...
I just rebulit a 62 split case and you have to take it apart, to get it off the transmission. You will need the shop manual for it. Best to do all this on the bench. MUD is a great asset for questions. Not too difficult, if you pay attention. You might as well rebuild the transfer case while you...
74CJ5,
Really looks good. The wheels are nice, painted up. Have you decided about a spare tire and wheel. I only ask, because that is a hard wheel for most shops to fix a flat. I always have a flat at the wrong time. That type of wheel is on the scarce side, to find. Not many guys sell them.
