I seen that truck in Baja, 1991. I broke a power steering belt coming into Gos. Bay and found that truck. It was taken apart after it had a high water incounter. The owner had a full shop there at his house, unreal place. Good people, fixed me up and on my way. The truck was in the sixties, I think.
Boy, the trailer is looking good. My son is starting one of ours, so we'll be following your build. I think Mark is right on the plate. If you pull your front pins and dump, the plate and lights are in trouble. Try it in a controled test before using.
The man who owns the shop, was over on Steel Soldiers saying it was built for a movie. He talked alot about it and wanted everybodies opinion on it. Built very strong. Says he might build more if anybody is interested.$$$$
Hey Mark, nice write up on the brakes. I know you have a full size pickup, so you really aren't going to need the trailer brakes much, but you aren't going to feel the extra few hundred pounds either. I would think a smaller type truck might need the brakes on the trailer, when it's loaded up...
Ok I looked them up:
LARGE BEARING AND RACE
Inner bearing 25580
Inner race 25520
SMALL BEARING AND RACE
Outer bearing 2585
Outer race 2520
GREASE SEAL
10-36 Double Lip
This parts are all Timken. I have not used this parts, just looked them up from other post. Etrailer.com has China parts...
They are great trailers! I should know the answer about the bearings and seals, but have to look it up. Have you posted it on Steel Soldiers. Couple of guys here will speak up when they see this post. Good luck with it
One of your new tail lights should have a clear lens in the bottom to light up your plate. Mount the plate under the clear lens, you might have to fab a bracket.
It is strange both of your trailers are tagged wrong, but I guess it happens. Look on Government Liquidations.com under trailers...
Sorry Titanpat57, take a look at the first trailer again. It is a 105A3, inset tailights and lighter landing gear. Look at the huge drum brakes and over all huge size next to the 101's. The 105A3 has a cheap landing gear that breaks very easy when trying to roll.
Yep it's a 105. A great trailer for the money, if you have a full size truck to tow it. I've got two of them, but I use my 5500 Dodge or the Deuce to tow.
Sounds like a good idea for the bed. I've never tried spraying it yet, but the guys that have, say it works great with a HVLP gun. You might have to thin it abit. There was alot of talk about it on SS.Keep up with the pictures of your build.
Paint looks good, you rolled it on! or did I miss read it. I'm getting ready to spray my M35 and some 101's with Behr house paint, that they were talking about on SS. Hope mine turn out like your job.
Sorry, just got back inside. Thanks Koolex for picking it up. I bought six of those, they plug right in, same ones the military now use. Great price too.
Just a couple thoughts, The m101 series trailers really aren't made to dump. They have a folding tongue , so shipping is easier. They will dump, but after alittle abuse, the frame will break. Do a search on SS, they can explain it. The angles aren't right for dumping. Also in the real world that...
you'll have to cut off the military plug or get an adapter for it. I can look up what wires you would need for a civy plug, they are all numbered. As for as new lights, everybody has their own idea about what they like. I like the mil. look. You can buy new led ones for 20 dollars a piece on...
