It's not aluminum, but they were treated with some type of rust preventor, not galv. either. I think any good primer will work. Rust. rusty metal is a good primer.
Those are great trailers for anything you throw at them. But Koolex is right they are not A3's. A3's have a upgraded axle to match the Hummers. They are alittle wider and have a bumped up area on the axle for ground clearance. You will really like your trailers, are very well built.
They will cause some jerking, when emtpy for sure. Surge brakes are good brakes, no electrical stuff. You will have to put in a [ I believe ] 3/8ths rod in the hole, on the side of the surge brake, to stop it when you back up. Otherwise the brakes will lock up when you back up.

When you start looking make sure you get a 101 A2 or A3. the A1 is an old design, used behind the M37. The A1 has the old split ring wheels with a 5 hole lug nut to match the M37. The A2 has been upgraded with 8 lug rims that any 3/4 ton chevy or ford rim fit. Also the A2 has a crank up tongue...
